I kicked my workspace in the teeth...

Oh boy, was my workspace ever a mess!  I was using craft paper to cover my desk, and it would get all ripped up and ugly in a hurry.  Plus, clutter everwhere.

So!  I re-papered the desk and then used a peel & stick plastic to seal the paper, which is so much smarter than what I used to do.   See?

Better.  You can see the masks I'm working on, there.  Anyway I finished those this morning.  Remember my "Harlequin Romance" masks from last year?  They're back for Valentine's Day.

Plus (and I just came up with this idea last night), I decided to do a Harlequin cat...neat eh?

Meow.  I don't do many cat masks anymore.  I used to do a LOT of cats but I guess I burned out.  Now I only do the Egyptian Bast mask and the Venetian cat, and those only once in a while.  Hmm.

Anyway the romance is all for sale in Etsy right now.   Heh!  Romance.  For sale.

Greg and Charlotte are funny.  One of the Christmas gifts we got from family far away; a ceramic notice board.  You write on it with a special marker...you can wipe the board clean for new messages.  I put it next to the fridge, so they could write a list there of things we might need (I do the grocery shopping & I never know when they might want something special.

Instead, they are using it for utilitarian haiku.  Greg writes:

Bills, when I pay them
It's like winning a game show
about being mugged

Char's response beneath:

It seems bittersweet,
this sense of satisfaction
from winning...but not.

I am living with clowns and machiavellian housepets.

Kawaiiii that's so cute! Nice clean workspace and definately good about the contact paper! So glad you are finding different inspirations :) They are so uber cute!

The haikus are so funny :D Always great when something designated for something turns out to be a source of amusement :D

Liquitex? Really? I have those! Perhaps I should try to make something simple just to make you laugh.

I need to kick my sewing room's butt. All it really needs is a few evenings of quality time. Well, that and somewhere to put the large pieces of random furniture that have been stuffed in there.

Your work space looks better then my desk right now.

The masks arr adorable. The notes...great. Keep life interesting to live with such creative people.

My workspace has moved to the side of the 'cove' at the end of my living room, near the paper lanterns. It looks really good there, and the mess is less conspicuous than it was before. It's covered in bead stacks (about twenty) and three bottles of paint and jewellers cases and stuff like that, right now. Pliers and half finished projects and so on.

Oh yeah, that reminds me that I should finish that front-clasping asymmetrical necklace I started...but I wanted feathers for it and I can't find my feathers right now...

It's in your colours, too...aqua and turquoise (actual turquoise) and bronze and a bit of wood.

Ooh, I like the cat Harlequin! I think it would look cute with red inner ears, too--although that might throw off the balance with the rose....

Cool. I've always waited to know what your workspace looked like. Even more pics next time okay, like your leather dryer... can't imagine what that looks like except of an image of a fruit drier I saw on tv once. LOL

The kids have their dragons on their bags. They are great because they are BIG and BRIGHT. Private school, everyone has identical bags. So school allows kids to hang ornaments. They have no excuse for getting the wrong bag. They just started today. I'll let you know reactions. Thanks so much!

Urgh, I posted something, I swear. But now it's gone. LJ doesn't like me.

It's kind of neat to see what your work space looks like, and your works in progress.

The new harlequin masks are fun, especially the cat--very cute. I hope they do well.

I love the fridge Haiku. Brilliant.

Aren't they funny? Greg thought I wrote that second haiku but no...that was Charlotte. Something about the apple not falling far from the tree.

lol...I'm glad you like the cat & the haiku!

We love making up haiku here, on the fly. I'm trying to remember the one I sent you...

Dear Nagano-san
Please keep taking off your shirt.
It makes me happy.

Liquitex is my favorite discovery of the last few years. You might notice how bright all my colors got a few years ago. That was the Liquitex. It's perfect for leather; I used to buy Cova Colors from Tandy and they were so small and expensive. Now I use Liquitex for everything except black (for some reason, Cova still is my favorite black).

It's good to clean up your work area once in a while. Creating in clutter is no fun at all.

My work desk looked like the scene of some terrible accident involving old mail and a bunch of paint...it's so much better now. :-)

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I took my cue from you...you're always improving your workspace and making it so bright & pretty. I tend to let mine go far too long before I do something about it.

Ohh...that sounds like a lovely project. I am working on some leaves for you, by the way. :-)

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I thought about that too; wanted to add inner ear details but then I thought, if I started doing that where would it end? I'd do a nose and whiskers and and and... I decided to try to let the pattern be enough. Might still try it the other way though...it's a process. ^_^

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
My workspace is so tiny! But I'm happy there...it's like a little nest.

LOL...my "leather dryer" is my oven...yes really! Not very impressive I know.

Yay! I'm glad the kids are enjoying their dragons. That's the best part of my art, in my opinion; it's utilitarian. You can touch it and use it and not damage it 'cause it's tough! ^_^

LJ has been so weird lately. Sometimes I get a mail notice when I get a response, sometimes not. Sometimes autodraft works, sometimes not. I tend to assume it won't work correctly, so that I don't get disappointed. ;-)

An LJ Haiku just for you:

Oh no, LiveJournal
I see you lost my entry
some things never change.

[identity profile] zannachan.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahaha! Thank you! Your entire family is brilliant, I swear :D
