Home again...

Here's how tired I am... I actually considered using this header:  "I  Just Flew In From San Francisco, and Boy Are My Arms Tired".  Is that horrible or what?!  I'm pretty sure the earth would have opened up and swallowed me whole in retribution if I'd actually gone with that.  In my defense I only considered it for a very short moment .  *tired but not completely addled*

Anyhoo!  Back from SF, which is a glorious place.  I'll expound later, when I have energy, time, and downloaded pictures.   Chinatown was fun, Japantown was fun, seeing the Golden Gate bridge was fun, Fisherman's wharf and Pier 39 was fun...it was all fun.    I met the adorable [profile] zipis1 and her roommate Griffin, and that was a hoot (those poor kids!), but again, more on all that later when I'm feeling chattier.  Red eye flights...*sigh*

Briefly though (SO briefly, in fact, that I'm going to cheat and lift all this from the IM convo I just had with [profile] rumdiculous...how's THAT for lazy?), the lowdown on the Lahaina Gallery thing.    It was complicated because, hmmm...complicated.  It really IS who you know...y'know?   The gallery is an established traditional art gallery that specializes in REALLY established artists in the middle or ends of their careers..I'm too new plus I do "art object" fine art, so I'm all wrong for them.  BUT...He did look at my stuff, LOVED it, talked w me for an hour or more, and gave me contacts for a gallery that'd be just right for me.  I'm not discouraged because he really thinks my work is perfect RIGHT NOW for the art object galleries.  And high end too.  He said "Oh double that" when he asked about the price on the water dragon...AFTER I said 2,000.00.

So I know what to do now...plus he actually called the gallery OWNER of the biggest art object gallery in SF...while I was right there...and set up the call-back for me.  I just need to call this other guy in a week (he's on vacation).   I have a new contact name, new battle plan...all I need is a new portfolio (but I already knew that), because I sort of embarrassed myself with the old one (it sucks!).
So, y'know...very promising.  I'm not giving up yet.    Welcome to my world.

And I'm out of energy, so, nap time again.   :-)

Did Zipi actually like you? I may be a teeny bit jealous, if she did :)

She said the same thing in her entry, lol...Met Meri, will talk about it later when not exhausted. Gee, what did you two DO? :)

Oh, I'm so excited about the gallery hook-up! *prays to my goddess of art and literature* You're so talented and original that I have no doubt your work will be snapped up in an instant. (Which one was the water dragon?)

And yay for meeting [livejournal.com profile] zipis1!

Happy Thanksgiving!

You're back, YEY! Poo to no immediate gallery gratification, but what he did to put you through to his contacts, now that's FABulous. 4k for your work...omg, you better hit that and hard XD

Happy Turkey Day, hope you had an excellent day with the family filled with more food than you know what to do with~~

Hello! Love the blog! I knew you were a talented artist but didn't know you were a talented writer as well. The gallery guy confirmed what you knew and what we've been telling you, and most importantly what your father wrote (and illustrated in watercolor using a young native American running full out) "When you get to the chasm ... LEAP! It's not as far as you think!" You've been standing at the end of your chasm for a while, so I decided to give you a teensy PUSH. So now you have an "official" confirmation that your work has been underpriced; that you are ready for the leap to a fine art object gallery; that if you wanted to go a bit more commercial and mass produce you could; that you need a really great portfolio. Also some good business cards, too. ;) LEAP Andrea! It's not as far as you think. Besides, if you "miss" on your first try, or your second or your third ... we will be here to catch you. Love, Bonnie

I'm glad you had fun!!

Yeah, galleries are VERY much about who you know. (I actually talked to a guy at a gallery once who told me the only way to get into that gallery was to have lived in the area and died in the area. Morbid much?) But it sounds like it went well enough at least. So you didn't get into that one, but I wouldn't be surprised if down the road some gallery picks you up. And from there, it should be smooth sailing. :D *crossing fingers anyway*

MIL again -- How do I get one of those identity thingees so I don't have to keep using MIL?
Of course you loved my city! I am glad to see Kat and Griffin (Griffith?) got home okay. Cute kids, though lip rings are not my thing. Next time Andrea travels out our way, we can drive down to see you, Kat. I want Andrea to see Carmel, of course, and Cambria which is my favorite artist haven. I can introduce her to Heriononim (Hell, I can't spell it but he's Harry Wysocki using the Latin for Harry)who has his own gallery in that little seaside town. Speaking of galleries, Andrea convinced me to buy a Guy Buffet original oil. I have only purchased serigraphs before: Wysocki, McGehee, Patrick, Buffet and of course Delacroix. This was exciting and scary at the same time.
For those of you who know San Francisco, the guy at Lahaina Galleries recommended GUMPs. Object art, Asian flavor, very pricey. On Union Square. Very chic - chic. But if Andrea wants a place like Gump's she needs to resolve the "one of a kind" fine art vs. "limited edition" fine art dilemma. And solving that is something only she can do.
Good to hear that John jumped on the "Andrea Takes A Leap" bandwagon. I knew he would! I love John who is very talented and funny. He recited a special piece of poetry for Andrea and Greg's wedding that he composed and illustrated on the back of an old envelope while hung-over from the wedding festivities the night before and waiting for his breakfast. A sample of the verse: "And it truly is amazing how they formed a bond so strong ... Since her temper's way too short and his hair is way too long ..." HA HA HA.
