I've been a busy little nerdling.
Back from West Virginia, which will forevermore be known as Left Virginia. Just go look at a map.
There are a lot of dead animals on the roads of West VA. I mean roadburgers. Simply awful. I swear I'm going to have nightmares about some of the critter carnage I had to drive over. Enough said.
It sure is pretty there, though. Did I take one single picture, even though I charged up my camera? The answer is no.
I did really well at the event, against all reason. I asked to have a merchant space inside the merchant hall...little did I know that meant I'd be in a tiny room with one other merchant (who had a flea-market-type table of random junk), while everyone else was outside in their merchant tents, in full view of everyone. I think maybe one tenth of the people who attended that event actually saw me. However, almost everyone who saw me did buy stuff, so it ended up being a very good weekend, money-wise.
I consider that all GRAVY though, as I was mainly there hoping to see my good friend
rumdiculous, who showed up with her folks (they are really good sports). It was really great, hanging out with Sarah. After all the time we've spent yakking online, it was like we were old friends. :-) Fun fun.
The long drive home took a lot out of me. I'm still so tired. It's hard, doing a big event alone. Lonely, too. :-(

In other news, I am thinking of diving into Twilight Princess tonight. I controlled myself before the event (had to do the responsible thing and make stuff to sell, y'know), but I think I can be allowed this little indulgence now. Greg's been playing and it looks like a ton of fun.
Speaking of Greg, today I bought him his own guitar for Guitar Hero. He and Char have been sharing her red Gibson guitar. Because she's a teen, she's all "Mine! Mine!" when it comes to things (especially that stupid little fake guitar) so I bought him a funky white Les Paul. It's...extremely geeky but he actually looks pretty cool playing it. As cool as a grown man playing a fake guitar can look, at any rate. I'm glad they're having fun, anyway (though I swear I have had it up to HERE with "Freebird". I was alive in the 70s, thankyouverymuch, and am sick unto death of that freaking song).

Did anyone watch "Heroes" tonight? Because that was my favorite episode yet OMG! That show is incredible...the writing is so tight and I have NO idea where everything is going, though it all seems to be coming together in the most convoluted and wonderful way. Can't wait to see what happens next! Much, much love for Ando & Hiro, by the way. Hiro is such a sweet & hopeful character...I just love him. I sure hope he survives all the chaos. *worried*
And! An update! You will remember that my sweetheart husky Kiba was kicked out of puppy day care about a year ago. A wheaten-coated terrier had bitten him, and he'd decided that all wheatens were enemies, so he was banished (which was sad, as he's a very social dog and LOVES to play with many puppy friends, the more the merrier). Well, I found a new day care for him and so far, he's behaving very nicely. The owners said he's an extremely well-socialized dog and plays very well with everyone. He couldn't be happier about the whole development. The facility is state of the art and very clean and nice, well-staffed and less expensive than the old place. You'll remember how picky I was about finding a new place, and how horrified I was at the crappy, scary doggie daycare facilities I visited. This one's really great, though. Best of all, it's right near where Greg's new office is, so he can drop him there once or twice a week...just so he can play with other pups! My dog is, quite possibly, the most spoiled dog on the face of the planet.
I got the rose in the mail today,

That's about it. I'm going to dive into Twilight Princess tonight, I think. It's the only game I can imagine that might soothe my broken heart after Okami (damn...I wish there was a sequel!)

Aren't Northern breeds weird? Just when you're certain that they're a little addled, they do something that proves how clever they are. I've had several dogs, and I'd never guessed that one could hold a grudge like that! Against a particular breed, no less.
Hmm! Pictures of the Keebinator...always happy to oblige! Here he is at about ten months, proving that some huskies CAN be trained and not all of them are door-rushers. My good boy. :-)

I love the one little paw over the threshold. "What? That doesn't count, right? I'm still inside, like a good boy..."
Does Keebs have favorites as well as grudges? My boy was always eager to see any other friendly dog (well, except maybe the weiners, post-nose-nip), but he always seemed to be particularly excited to run across one of the few other mals or sibes in the neighborhood. One particularly lovely blue-eyed dark copper Sibe bitch was pretty much his Dog Park Girlfriend who would be just as insistent about stopping to say hello if she saw us...although she was a shameless flirt with ALL the dogs, the little hussy. ;)

Apparently (according to the woman who ran his first doggie daycare...I miss that place because she was SO knowledgeable about dogs)...huskies & Northern breeds always gravitate towards eachother. Kiba likes labs and pits and pretty much everyone (except wheaten-coated terriers!), but he prefers a sled dog or a spitz-breed above all others. At the day care, they'd all hang out in a pack like they were the cool kids.
His best pal at his old daycare was a shiba inu called Tora. Crazy pup full of trouble, but Keebs loved him.

Jake always seemed to like friendly pits and shibas too -- when he was younger, pit puppies seemed to be the only ones who would play rough and energetic enough to wear him out. I haven't noticed any particular breed preferences with these current two, but I don't even remember the last time I even *saw* another elkhound, so Zeus has not really had a chance to show if he would recognize his own kind. And dear, dim little Biscuit is just too oblivious, I think. Zeus has tended to gravitate to HUGE Great Danes at the dog park -- he did have a GD buddy at home for a while, so I don't know if going up to play with strange Danes was because he recognized them as like his pal Pan, or if it was just the moosedog instinct to harass animals much larger than himself. (I've seen videos of elkies hunting in Scandinavia, and the tactics they use on a real live moose are pretty much the same way he likes to play with big dogs -- just keep running around in circles and barking your fool head off!)
