Moth And Vine...new mask

Ever busy.  Last night I was pining for a spot of green.  Spring can't come soon enough for me this year...I really hate February with a passion.   So, to make myself happy, I thought about the color of Spring.  To me it's the color of new green & wet earth.  That's where this mask comes from.

I'm calling it "Moth And Vine"...original, neh?   Everyone seems to love my luna moth, so I just used the same luna moth that I use for my large barrette, & put it on a brown mask.  It needed balance though so I did this cute little vine on the other side...

Like a little viney eyebrow.  It's not anything I researched...just a cute little green tendril with gold buds on one end.  I used two different kinds of browns, for the base mask color.  I wanted a rich wet chestnut brown & I think I got it.

I put it up on Etsy already, for cheap!  $50 for a prototype...but I'm okay with that because I want to make many more of them.  I drew the vine freehand so it'll be fun & different every time.  It occured to me, as I made it, that I like  the combination of brown & new green almost as much as I like brown and turquoise together.  It just makes me happy.

Speaking of brown, I ordered the cutest top for myself from Anthropologie.  It's just a simple dark brown gauze baby doll top with fluttery cap sleeves...it looks like a mini dress but you wear it over jeans.  When it comes, I'm going to embellish it with brown/gold/turquoise paisley baroque trim (I already bought the trim).  It's going to be so fun & fluttery.  ^_^   I'm a Bohemian in my dress style, if not lifestyle.

Char is finally feeling better.  That's a good thing.  She's had the flu & has been coughing & sneezing & moaning & sputtering all over the house.  If I don't get sick it'll be a freaking miracle.

My Brother is in Brussels again, with Franco.   He'll probably be heading to Greece with him again.  Later next month he's off to Hong Kong.  I am so...conflicted when I think of that.  I'm feeling proud/jealous/excited for him all at once.  What an awesome adventure his life is.

Well...my life is busy enough right now.  I think though, once Char is in college, things are going to change for me.  My business is taking off, too.  I want to travel & see new places & spend more time with my family (I miss my brother & sister so much).  Why not?  There's so much out there to see & do.  I should be seeing it & doing it.

EDIT...I just hit 600 "hearts" on Etsy.  Six hundred people have faved my shop, as of 11:30 AM.  That's freaking amazing!

Ooh, that's beautiful. Granted, I don't like the butterfly that much as that is my least favourite of the butterflies you do and I am just generally not a butterfly lover...but I LOVE the colour of the mask and the vine/eyebrow with the delicate flower at the end.

I'm sure you WILL travel. :)

I like the color combo so much, I think I want to try something REALLY different (maybe tonight) & do a carved Bohemian print mask...the entire surface will be carved in paisley patterns & colored green, brown, silver, gold & tan. I want to do the same thing in my favorite colors too; turquoise, dark brown, gold, red ochre. Maybe a third in blues, black & silver...cool winter colors. It's going to look like a colorful henna-painted hand, you know what I mean? I'm gonna call it my "Boho Mask".

Yep...just decided to do it. See how inspiration happens? Just like that.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely going to travel...alone if I have to. Just recently decided that, too. Life's too short. ^__^

Not my favorite, but very pretty. It's snowing here - all fluffy white flakes. I hate the grey, so this makes me happy.

I'm working out some other ideas with this color combo. I thought it was the moth I wanted when actually it's the moth's GREEN I want. With that rich brown. It draws me.

Oh, I love fluffy snowfalls. So pretty. Lately here it's either weirdly warm with mud & sloppy rain or freaking arctic with a 50MPH wind & nothing inbetween. Extreme weather.

I'm not a huge fan of sap green - I prefer more of a forest tone. Although at this time of year I can certainly understand why you'd crave it.

This is particularly pretty snowfall - especially since our VP cut us loose, and I'm typing from my living room couch. All fluffy and pretty. I should try to take some pictures.

Maybe a fire tonight.

Love the eyebrow! The buds are such a ool touch because they're not only a great part of the plant, but as little dots look like such a cool design element <3 I didn't know if it was the photo, but the brown really does have a marbled look and that is Way Too Cool! You hit 'Spring' right on the mark.

...DAMMIT JOHN. I like how he neglected to mention during a businessy conference call that he'd be travelling the world for the next billion years and making me all nervous and paranoid for not answering emails about the next projects. AAARGH CRAZY MAN okay, I'm over it :3

Danke! I'm still messing with that color scheme...I'm going to try a "paisley print" type design next, something that looks like a henna-ed hand but in colors.

lol...you can reach him anywhere in the world now...he switched his cell provider. Same #. Just be careful because he's six hours ahead of us, time-zone-wise. Also he has his laptop so you can still answer e-mails & stuff. Do! Because all sorts of big, cool business-related things are happening for him(& maybe you?) & his world is spinning about 3X faster than ours is. ;-)

I love the little vine and the richness of the brown (the color mix is really beautiful).

Glad to hear the kiddo is better. I'm getting there myself. It's been just an awful winter for illness (especially flu).

Thanks...that's what I like too; that color combo. I have more ideas up my hippie-chick sleeve. ;-)

I'm glad you're starting to feel better. It HAS been a terrible flu season. I remain, curiously enough, healthy...I hope I stay that way.

Oooh, that's a beautiful mask. I confess that it's not in my preferred colors (I like bluer, darker greens) but I think it's exquisitely done, so perfectly spring. I could use spring right now. I love February, with its flurry of birthday gatherings and, in the past, Scottish gatherings (we used to go to an early February/late January Robert Burns dinner and, later in February, a celiegh (I can't remember how that's spelled) and it's such a short month that it just flies by. March is the month I hate, because it's still snow, bound, alternating with icy slush, and it's grey and windy and cold and it feels like spring will never come.

But I'm awfully tired of winter by now.

Yeah, February is sitting on my head like an 800lb gorilla this year. :-/ I wish it was over.

Ugh...I'm moving slowly & your mask won't be done until Monday (I got sidetracked by this vine mask & another project)...but it's coming along. ^__^

Lovely mask. Very lovely.

Yeah... I can't wait for winter to be over overe here too. Blach. >.<

Congrats on the 600 faves! You deserve it!

Thank you! You know, sometimes I wonder what I'd do to cope with the monotony of winter if I wasn't an artist. I crave colors in February...everything here is so monochromatic right now; like a black & white TV. Dull dull dull.

Thank you about Etsy too. Why are there no Japanese sellers on Etsy I wonder?

I hear you about Feb... we're starting to get some early blooming bulbs in the yard and I nearly danced for joy in the driveway. lol

But it's a gorgeous mask (that seems to be my word this morning.) I love the vine and the brown color. Really does have that earthy tone to it.

Congrats on Etsy!! You and your work deserve it completely!

Hi! Hello hello! I never see you anymore & I miss you. *hug*

You're lucky...Spring must come to your part of the country sooner than for me. We're still in a deep freeze with snow forecast for Tuesday & Thursday. *shrug* Oh well...Kiba likes it.

Thanks about the mask/Etsy. Things have been so busy for me!

I'm going to try to make it a point to be on more... Some of the meds I've been on have been helping the moods lately.

It's still cold and miserable, but some of the early buds are starting to pop up. It'll really be about a month before we have lots of color in the area.

Tessa loved the snow too. We had about 6 inches a month or so ago. She absolutely adored it. Almost makes me wish we were somewhere that had more snow.

Almost.

I'm glad Etsy is working so well for you!! (And you didn't have to work a Wal-mart...that would have just been a terrible waste...)
