And it snowed...

What a weekend.

It snowed all day Friday, creating a mess which we dug ourselves out of on Saturday.  Then Saturday night it started again, snowed all day Sunday, and it's still going.  The wind is brutal, 40 MPH coming off the lake.  Lake snow is drifted four feet deep in spots.   I'm weary of it.   It's not pretty 'cause there's too much of it...it's actually getting into scary "collapse your roof" territory, and with the windchill at something like 20 below it's not like you can go outside for very long.

On the other hand it was a good weekend to just be in the house enjoying our various diversions.  Char had marathon phone sessions and played "Animal Crossing" to her heart's content.  Greg was on the computer playing his game, & I made a few new masks (pictures, hopefully, once it's light outside & the darn wind stops).  I bought a jigsaw puzzle and we all sat at the kitchen table and put it together.  We drank gallons of hot chocolate.  I made big hot dinners of comfort food and we all ate together.  It hasn't been that bad.

Char is praying for another snow day.  We may well have it because the snow is still blowing around out there and another 4 inches will fall by morning.  That's 12 inches Friday, 13 more Sunday and another 4 by Monday morning commute...29 inches of snow altogether.   Certainly the worst weekend storm we've had here in years.

I'm glad I finished my X-mas shopping a while ago.

EDIT:  Yep, they canceled school for another day.  The kids can't be expected to walk in waist-deep drifts.

EDIT McEDIT:  Here's one of the masks I finished this weekend.  A Frost Wolf...no surprise there.  Weather-influenced art!

Up in Etsy, naturally.

Make Char walk to school in the snow...at least once...it will give her bragging rights to tell her children about forever....she'll thank you. hehehehe

Heh...she won't walk on days when there's NOT waist-deep snow.

LOL that's funny :) So no "I walked up hill both ways" stories for her kids :p

Wow, that's a lot of snow, even for your area. I'm surprised that Char still has school; when does her winter break start? My mom's break (she works for the public schools) starts today, though really it started early as Friday was a snow day.

That wolf mask is lovely--really striking.

Brrr. Stay warm, stay safe!

They had classes today then nothing until after the new year. Bunch of angry surly teenagers...I wouldn't want to be a teacher in her school today.

Thanks...I love black with vibrant blue together too. It makes a nice companion piece to that Fire Wolf.

Ugh, what a morning. I had to drive in this weather which led to my mom getting super upset (even though I got home when I said I would) and now I'm totally shaken up because she was that scared about it. *feels green*

I might have to go cry or something, to let the 'ow' out. I don't know why I can't handle having my mother be worried about me, but it seems I really can't.

Now I have to go look for a new piece of cardio equipment. (See latest journal entry if this comment does not make sense.)

Just as well the kids stay home...buses would swerve everywhere in this weather. Wind is insane!

I hate this weather SO much right now. I can't handle anything emotionally. The snow is piled a yardstick deep in my Mom's driveway, no one has cleared it and she is coming home and she has this HUGE driveway and...I'm like you. I want to be a good daughter but I'm breaking my back over there and have hardly made a dent in the mess. I had a bad moment about it & my husband basically laughed at me, and I just want to find a cave & curl up & go to sleep like a bear.

If someone had laughed at ME when I was in a mood like that, they'd be taking their life in their hands. Winter makes me very short-tempered. (The lamp helped a bit with that, actually, like I said...took the 'edge' off the desperate depression and the inability to remain calm even in situations that normally wouldn't ruffle me.)

I want to sleep through the winter, too...I always do. I just don't want to look at it for another minute. We've already had this snowy situation going on for a month, now, and it's already sickening.

I get really testy if I say things like this and other people laugh lightly and say 'I LIKE winter.' I have to restrain the urge to reach out and claw them. I'm not complaining about the weather, here! It goes MUCH DEEPER than that. I'm complaining about something that makes me want to SHRIVEL UP AND DIE, not something so petty as a bit of inconvenient cold. It's SERIOUS, it's not me pouting over a rainy day!

I always get verrrry angry if anyone takes that lightly. Makes me want to tell them to come back and see me the next time something happens in their life to make them feel like their soul is being slowly drained from their body, no matter how hard they fight against it...and see how much sympathy I give them.

Of course, I explain this to people...and then they shut up. Of course, they then go around telling people that I'm 'too serious' or have 'no sense of humour'...but they never, ever say such things to me again...and that's all I care about.

I made you a bubble. Here. *Gives Meri a shiny shut-the-world-away bubble.* I really can't lend anyone my own, I need it too desperately...so I made you one of your own. :)

That's a lot of snow! Some of the best family times comes from snow days - enjoy them while you can. Hope nothing happens with the snow on your roof. Do you have to shovel it?

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Fortunately there was so much wind that it blew most of the snow off the roof. Unfortunately that means there are places where the snow has drifted five feet deep. I hate winter... :-(

Holy Moses..

Over 2 feet? Oy... glad I don't live near the lakes.. we just got a little bit of ice and it was mostly gone when the temperatures went up again. It has been windy though.. the past couple days I swear I never heard the windows bow... It was baaaaaad.. luckly I had no business outside so I didn't brave it... Today however I'm about to go out.. I'm praying it's not bad.. I'm such an indoor kitty it's ridiculous!

Yeah we got totally buried. We haven't had a weekend storm like this in a long time (let alone two!). What a mess...

Stay inside when you can! It's nasty out there.
