Ouchie!

Oh man I am SO stupid.  I hurt myself, but good.

Normally, every day I do one hundred crunches.  It's a great way to warm up in a hurry.  I do them on my inflated exercise ball (so nice & comfy!) and I do 50 in a slow measured way, then 25 as quick "pulse" crunches, a pause to breathe, then 25 more quick ones.  Fun!

But then yesterday I was thinking "I wonder how MANY pulse crunches I can do?"  Dangerous thought!  So I just started doing sets of 25...and I just kept doing them.  I did eight sets and I felt fine but a little burny around the middle & I said "ok...200 is twice as many as I normally do so I better stop".  About an hour later the aching started.  By midnight my abs were spasming in an alarming way.  All night long I was achey and miserable...every time I rolled over it felt like I'd been kicked in the ribs.

It's better today but still very hurty...you use abs for EVERYthing, you know?  Sneezing, coughing, standing...  Ouch.  I went grocery shopping & it was an experience.  Note to self; NEVER double your workout all in one day.  Because I was such a wise guy yesterday I'm not doing ANY ab work today at all.  So it goes...

Everyone in this house has a cold but me.  It is snowing, therefor the shoveling is entirely up to me.  I wonder how much it's gonna hurt?

EDIT!   Hey [livejournal.com profile] golden_meliades , I got your card...thank you!  It's so cute & I just love the envelope.

Drink lots of water.

Sometimes doing a nice warmup and then a very light workout actually helps the soreness go away.

Heh heh heh. THat's the kind of thing I did to myself weekly...pushing to the limits and then crashing and burning mightily. Until my recent, seemingly successful implementation of the plan to keep myself reasonable. (It involves writing a LOT of things down, and I've noticed that exercising over a certain percentage of my max heart rate tends to make me sore and exhausted for days. I knew that before, but having daily numbers to PROVE it really makes me feel stupid if I don't pay attention and do things more sensibly.)

I do know you use abs for everything...it's true! I had two major abdominal surgeries so for sure I've experienced that. Having to use your hands to get out of bed, or even just to roll over...having to grab the counter to stand up out of a squat...and GOD FORBID one should have to COUGH!

I do a hundred and fifty abs thingies together...50 crunches, 40 leg-up crunches (though I'm thinking of doing flat leg raises instead, they seem MUCH more effective, though I 'invented' it myself so I'm kinda wondering...) and 60 side crunches. Oh and back bends, of course, to stretch the abs out...you really have to contract those abs to keep it from hurting the back, though! I can now bend far enough back that my hip bones leave the floor without hurting my spine. (I have a subluxation right in the centre of the lower back so I have to be extra careful about exercises that crimp in that area, as I could cause my nerves to get pinched. OW!)

Glad you got the mini letter. I just thought you'd like the envelop if I made it out of that image. :) That homemade (not by me) paper sure is hard to write on, though.

Oh, ow ow ow! I did something similar many years ago now and boy did it hurt. Heating pads and drinkings lots of fluids might help.

Poor Meri. Take it easy for 2 days and it will be better.

Shoveling? What is this strange custom? It sounds painful....

therefor the shoveling is entirely up to me

You are not resting. Maybe 4 day if you are going to shovel. Tell everyone in your household to feel better...Chicken soup.

So sorry to hear of your "accident". :) Hope you are feeling better now.

Pam is right, chicken soup. But put some fresh cayanne peppers on it. As much as you can stand. Another good cure for what ails you is an Indian soup called Tomato Rasum which I make a lot. Here is a recipe similar to the one I use: http://andhraspicy.blogspot.com/2007/09/tomato-rasam.html
