Throw me some stuff, mister!

Mardi Gras '09 was a HOOT.
Me and Rose getting goofy with the Mardi Gras beads...

Well, it was a pretty crazy night, I have to say.  I went to the ARTVOICE Mardi Gras event in downtown Buffalo, in the heart of the Allentown art district.   The nightclub "Neitzsche's" was party central & since I was hanging with the ARTVOICE staff, I was in the center of all the commotion.  The mask I donated was being raffled off for charity (see HERE) and Rose kindly introduced me to all the art/culture movers-and-shakers in Buffalo, which was very cool.

There was a really awesome zaidico band who really knew their stuff; the music was incredible...

The place was completely packed.   Hundreds and hundreds of people, and Allen street was CRAWLING with people in costumes & masks all running around having a great time.  Over 40 bars & restaurants participated in the event and I'm sure several thousand people were taking part in the Mardi Gras fun this year.

A big part of the event is the Drag Queen Parade.  When the drag queens jump up & walk on the bar counter, you know the party is getting good.

They were all SO sweet, really, and every bit of the money they raise for this event goes to Hospice Buffalo, so all that spandex & lace is there for a great cause.  I wanted to get my picture taken with the whole bunch but it was too crowded & crazy...seriously.

Rose and I had a really great time.  She is the ARTVOICE photographer who so kindly remembered me from a small article YEARS ago, & invited me to have my masks featured on the cover this week...which turned into this awesome opportunity.

We hung out all night and I took her to dinner 'cause it was the least I could do.   I stayed at Nietzsche's for about 5 hours, passing out beads and having a little too much to drink...  ;-)  I was a bit crunchy this morning, I have to admit.  I have a huge amount of colorful Mardi Gras beads to show for my effort though, & since I was part of the staff I didn't even have to show anyone my boobs to get them!

SO much fun!  And there are big plans to do it all again next year, too!  I have a whole year to come up with something FABULOUS.  ;-)

It was great, but exhausting! Seriously, after 3 hours I was ready to go home & go to bed. *is old*

That looks like such a hoot! I love Zydeco music - it's so lively and definitely gets everyone in a festive mood. Love the drag queens, too!

We didn't have anything near as exciting going on here, which is too bad because my birthday + Mardi Gras = Big o' excuse to Par-tay.

Zydeco! I never remember how to spell that correctly! :-? But yes, I love that music too. The whole of downtown was all "cajun-fied" last night. Restaurants were serving fried alligator (yes really,it tastes a lot like chicken), & this year there were a BUNCH of really big floats. I've been invited to participate in a float "crewe" next year as well. Fun fun!

Oh man...& I totally spaced your birthday! I'm a bad friend. I'm going to blame the hangover 'cause I totally planned to send a happy B-day shout out to you on my LJ.

I've never seen a Mardi Gras or Mardi Gras -esque party, but...don't you have to take your top off to get those beads? Just how did you come by so very many of them, Ms. Merimask?

Glad you had fun. And even if you were a mite drunk, I'm betting you kept your top on. :) (You must have stolen those beads from some drunken topless girl. After all, it's easy, when they're drunk...)

LOL...this is BUFFALO! If you exposed any part of yourself it'd surely freeze & fall off! Besides, if I showed my boobs to anyone, the only thing they'd throw me is a shirt. ^__^"

Hee! Actually I was the one doing the bead-throwing, so I had my pick. I did a fair share of trading too, which was totally fun.

Well this is Pembroke...and I'm pretty sure we're a whole zone colder than you (maybe even two zones...I'm in 4a and Toronto is 6a, as is St. Catharines...you must be about the same where you are since you're only an hour from TO) and I've been going without a coat for half the days in February (I was out just this morning in a sleeveless racer workout top and tiny bike shorts when I was travelling between our little gym and the house.) So I wasn't sure that the temperature would make much difference, but I guess you get cold easier than I do. :) (Besides, all you have to do is flash 'em, right?)

Anyway, I'm just saying...in my mind the temperatures right now don't make a lot of difference to potential boob flashing. :)

Yay!

That looked like a lot of fun! It's not like you do this all the time so having hard core fun like that has to be good for you :D

It was SO fun! I really had a good time & I think I have a new friend too, 'cause Rose & I have plans to get together next week. That's awfully nice 'cause I do not get out enough...always at my desk makin' stuff like someone with no life.
