Mwaahahaha! My giant monster bed conquers all!

OMG I have a GIGANTIC BED NOW and it is incredible.

It's HUGE...I think that mattress is about 18 inches thick, double-sided, rated to last for twenty years, and made of cloudstuff.  When they assembled the whole thing last night it was a little shocking because it was at least a foot higher than the old bed.  At first I kind of felt "perched" up there and the ceiling seemed too close, but I tell you it was SO much fun to get out of bed this morning because I just swung my feet over the edge and POP I was standing just like that with almost no effort.  I stood there stunned for a bit by how wonderfully easy it all was...one second I'm asleep and the next I'm on my feet and wide awake.  Amazing!

And I sprawled last night!  And it was fine!  And this morning nothing hurts!  Usually I ache when I get up, at least until the coffee kicks in.  But not today...today I feel great!  I only had 4 hours of sleep, too (was up late again...heh...Okami) but I feel like I had a full night's rest.

BTW I know where old shoes go to die now.  They were all underneath my old bed.  It was hilarious because when we pulled off the old mattress and box to clean up before the movers came, there was a perfect bed-shaped rectangle of debris beneath consisting of old shoes and various...things.  Ghosts of kitties past.   A couple of hairballs that were Claudia-colored.  Poor old kitty.  I miss her but I really don't miss the hairballs.  Long-haired cats are messy messy critters.

Haha!  Blackmail Halloween photos!

Char is the cutest pirate ever!  Isn't this adorable??  I got the skirt, headscarf, and shirt as separate pieces from Party City and the rest is stuff we had laying about.   Those are my sexy 200.00 boots from the 80's when I used to KICK ASS.  So glad I held on to those.  :-)  You can sort of see...she's wearing a parrot earring I got for her in Costa Rica.  One parrot earring!!  Her idea.  Isn't that just so CUTE?

Of course we had to have Kiba in a picture too.  And of course he got all wound up and howled 'cause he loves the attention.

"Awwwoooo!" sez the dog.

And just to be fair, here's a birthday picture of me.  With the cake.  As promised.

The humiliation is now complete.  :-)

Also...who was it on my F-list who said that I was going to Loooove the high speed cable...but if I ever lost it for some reason it would really SUCK?  Because haha!  You're right!  Screw you, Time Warner...screw you and your craptacular cable modem that is blinking and winking and not working.  Arggggh!  Dial up again...nooooo!   I have lost my coping skills and I'm just sitting here fidgeting and frothing while I wait for photobucket to load three lousy pictures and it took almost TEN MINUTES and I'll never get those minutes back...*sob*

Anyway, it's a good thing we kept the option to retain the dial-up link or we'd be SOL until some time next week, when Time Warner gets around to giving us a new craptastic modem.  *sigh*  Greg's looking into buying our own, today.  Deliver us from evil cable conglomerates and their crappy hardware, Best Buy!  *praying*

Ahh, yes, new beds are love. When we moved into this place, it was the first time we were ever able to put the whole bedframe together....and it was SOOOO much higher than it used to be when the box spring was just on the floor.

Char looks so awesome! XD Totally dig the boots and the pirate earring.

I think that might have been me who made a comment about the cable back to dialup....don't remember for sure, but I've been there and it SUCKS. At least you know you'll be back to high speed before long.....we had to wait almost two years.... Gah.

And Chrono icon in honor of me sitting here, typing dressed as such. XD

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinkin' we could have forgotten about the bed frame altogether and just put the box spring right on the floor...and it ~still~ would have been higher than the old bed. But then, where would the next decade of old shoes go to die? They need someplace dark and still to expire in peace. ;-)

OMG isn't Char too much? She's only 13 and already the boys are flocking... *shudder* I keep thinking I'm in for a slice of hell when she gets older, but she's still my girl so...so far so good. *keeping fingers crossed* Teen angst makes me weary. Cute in anime, a pain in the ass everywhere else.

Eee! You did the Chrono thing? How cool! The hair alone must be a hoot to wear. :-)

Isn't it wonderful to sprawl? We got the low profile box-springs so that we're a little further away from the ceiling. Our friends thanked us for that when we moved them. Since it sounds like you got the same mattress that we did, I offer a mental image for your amusement:

Here we are in the front hallway of the new house, with the Gigantic King Sized Pillow Top Mattress of Doom. The plans for this house assume that normal people will make the room off the dining room with the attached bathroom and walk-in closet the master bedroom. I, of course, have made it into a library with a corner for my drawing board. So here we are by the stair case with the GKSPTMOD. The stair goes up to the right four steps, turns 90 degrees to the left, goes up to the landing, 90 degrees to the left, and then straight to the bedroom. It becomes apparent quickly that the GKSPTMOD is not sufficiently flexible to turn those corners. At least not with me, my husband, and two of my girlfriends handling it. No other Y chromosomes present. So we're looking at the stair, and the landing railing, and trying to figure this out. At this point my friend Isabeau, the Amazing Valkyrie Woman and I come to the same conclusion: she goes up and braces off of the railing on the upstairs landing, I go halfway up the stairs, and we tell Bob and Camma to "pass it up." The whole thing goes straight up and over the second floor railing. Boom. Down the hall, on the boxspring, ready to go.

I wish I had video of it.

Happy belated birthday. Belated congratulations on the house. Char is adorable. I see Pat's boomarangs on the wall!

Low profile box springs...that's a good idea. That must have been what they used in the showroom because I do NOT recall having to climb up onto the bed. *shrug* It's kinda fun, though. And it IS a lot easier to get out of bed when all you have to do is sorta jump down. :-)

Re: your "moving" experience...Oh man, rofl! That's too much. Y'know, they apparently hinge king mattresses for just that reason, but try bending one! It's like trying to fold a pizza box in half. Plus, I imagine it's not good for the foam & stuff to get stretched and folded like that. What you did is probably better (and certainly smarter!). You're just lucky your stairs were configured in such a way that you could cheat like that. Clever clever!

Ooo! Speaking of stuff on the walls, I have a request. Go back to my last entry...you'll see a link to a poem a friend wrote for me (she's SO talented). Could you calligraph it for me? I SO want to hang it in my study. Let me know what you think. :-)

Happy belated Birthday. I hope you have a great Halloween!

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, hon. :-)

Halloween is an event 'round here...there are SO many kids on our street. It's really very nice to see the whole street full of kids, all dressed up. Like a mini Mardi-Gras attended by midgets.

Puppy! Amaterasu-style pup!

...oh, and the girl is pretty cute too. I think my priorities are screwed up at the moment.

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kiba ~does~ look like Amaterasu, and I think that's part of the reason I love that game so much. Whoever animated and designed her really understands wolfy dogs...she howls like him and whurfles like him and even the way she flat-out runs looks just like my dog ('cept, he doesn't leave a trail of flowers in his wake). He even does that Amaterasu-style head tilt and says "Ruh?" when I ask him a question ("Wanna go out? Want dinner? Walk?"), which I freaking love every time he does it. Huskies are adorable.

"...oh, and the girl is pretty cute too."

Hehe... She'll be flattered but *finger shake* she's only 13! Oh wow, I am in SO much trouble with that kid. :-) She's too cute for her own good.

[identity profile] redmagus.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. There will be much hassle when she hits 18 I think.

And that's soul-killing cute that Kiba does all that.

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha...y'know...that was unfair of me, because everyone said "Char's so cute!" and to all of them I said "Hee! Thanks! I know!" but to YOU (the only guy in here) I say "Dude she's 13!".

Which is terribly unfair. And I apologize. :-)

...

All I can say in my defense is that someday, grasshopper, you too may have a teenage daughter and on THAT day you will say "Oooooh...I get it." I know...it's decades away for you, but I'm just sayin'... ;-)

I'm a large male swollen with jelly. It's perfectly understandable.

:zoidberg:

And yes, one day I will understand all things like why do hotdogs comes in packs of 10, yet buns only come in packs of 8.

I used to sleep on two mattresses on the floor. Then I got an actual bed frame about a year or two ago and it felt like I was on a stage! I felt so high up...lol it's funny to remember. Very soon your bed will feel like it's what you've always had. I kind of like the novelty, though.

I sleep in a twin and probably always will...I don't need more space because 1) I don't sprawl 2) I don't so much as budge a finger in my sleep 3) I don't have to share. I'd want a HUGE bed if I had to share, HUGE...and preferably one of those bowling-ball beds, too, so I couldn't feel them moving. I am an extremely light sleeper. A mouse sneeze could wake me :)

Congrats on the new bed, anyway! Er, not that 'congratulations' is exactly appropriate, but you know what I mean.

I used to have high speed but I've been on dial-up for three years now. I still HATE it.

I know I've said this before but Charlotte has great hair. That solid expresso colour is pretty rare, in nature, at least on a white person, and she's got a fair bit of it...and with that rusty hint, too.

I could eat some cake. Except I wouldn't :/ It looks tasty anyway...Cats and I once bought a big chocolate cake and took it home just to freak our roommate out when she came home...the minute she came in, we plunged out bare hands into the cake and started eating straight from cakey fingers :) We offered her some, but she said no. Go figure. (It was my idea. Cats is better behaved than me in such ways, and I just wanted to bug Jen a little.)

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm getting used to the height of the new bed already, in fact I like it! It feels opulent and grand to sleep way up there. I know what you mean about being a light sleeper...I'm one too and one of the great things about this super-deluxe mattress is it has a layer of memory foam in there somewhere which kills the bouncing (so Greg can actually jump into bed on the other side and I hardly feel it).

Dimension-wise, I think a king bed is exactly the same as two twin beds side by side. It's only 16 inches more than a queen, but it's SO funny what a huge difference that makes.

"I know I've said this before but Charlotte has great hair."
Argh! I know and it KILLS me because my hair used to be that color when I was her age. When I hit 30, though, it's like little white patches bloomed all over my head and at the same time my color lost all its red and went dark and mousey. I have to color it now because it's realllly ugly if I don't.

[identity profile] golden-meliades.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with dye! I just bought a box myself, today :) What's a girl supposed to do? God (or whoever) didn't see fit to grant me naturally purple hair, so I've GOT to dye it. (I also started getting strands of BRILLIANT white-silver by the time I was about twenty, and though it's a beautiful colour...it really is...that's just not fair. I have a youngish face, so I don't to age myself unnecessarily if a box of dye will fix it! Nature is overrated. :D )

Hmm, I thought a queen was two twins. But then, I really don't know any of the dimensions. I THINK a twin is 39 inches wide. I used to sleep on a cot, and even that was big enough for me, I'm just a veeeery still sleeper.

[identity profile] ramblinsuze.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Char looks awesome! Yea for parrot earrings (of which I have a few!) :D

Yep, it definitely sucks when the modem doesn't work. I'm not even sure I could cope with DSL, let alone dial up. BTW, if you're renting your modem, just go ahead and buy one. It's a lot cheaper in the long run, and you can run out and replace it ASAP if you need to.

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, she was SO cute in that costume. The only one cuter was the cherry blossom fairy costume she used to wear when she was four years old (she wore it all the time, for no reason. It was adorable & had little pink wings...I have to scan that picture so I can share it).

OMG I HATE the fact that we just got the high-speed cable like, a MONTH ago, and out of that month I've used it for maybe half that time. Grr! It was out for a week after the snowstorm, and now it's out AGAIN for another week...crap!

We bought our own modem yesterday and it didn't fix the problem (Time Warner says it must be the physical cable that's damaged, or the splitter, or the connection...etc...), so we still have to wait for the repairman to come. Sometime next week. *pout*

[identity profile] zipis1.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. That would be me. See? Sadly, I knew you would experience this pain eventually, for every high speed 'net goer does eventually. We have to suffer for that which is awesome, so that we may truly appreciate it :P (I think it's tha cable company's way of insuring that we know it IS worth the amount you pay for it).

Ah. I need a new mattress. I hear all this talk about how much better you feel afer sleeping on one, and, well...mine IS reeeeeally old (like, 20+ years). Sadly, I'll never know the joys of a king sized bed, though, as I have trouble sleeping in anything other than a bunk bed. It's the cat in me, needing to be elevated XD But a new mattress, perhaps, wouldn't be a bad thing to buy when he day comes that I am not so poor.

And Char reminds me of someone, but I can't figure out who. *pout*

[identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha! I thought it was you who said that. :-) You were SO right...this completely sucks! I miss my high speed! Everything is slow and I can't listen to music or download anything or watch streaming video or play those crappy online games...waaah! I was really getting used to that.

Oh, buy a new bed if you can because it is SO incredibly nice. SO nice. I know the place we bought ours sells twin mattresses that are extra nice for between 400 and 600 dollars (I'm going to get one for Charlotte). I tell you, it is worth saving for (or financing) because a good night's sleep changes ~everything~. If there's one luxury you deserve, this is it.
