This is very neat.  There's a film contest in Las Vegas every year; it's called The 48 Hour Film Project.  Short movies ( seven minutes long) made by amateurs with a 48 hour time constraint for production (that's everything...writing, acting, editing) with some kind of limited budget.  And my brother John's film won!

The winners are going to Cannes.  Cannes!!  Actually, I think that might have already happened...I'm on a time lag here.

Anyway, John is the nerd freaking out about the stein.  It's pretty funny.

Big News Of The Day: I seem to have had another piece selected as a Daily Deviation over on DeviantArt.  It's my Fighting Bettas mask.  I'm up to over a thousand views already!  I sent my thank-yous and now nothing's left but to sit back and watch the fun...OMG I LOVE getting featured!!  *is a spoiled brat artist*

Raving about FLOWER... )

I hope you all have a great day!  Me, I'm off for a sunny bike ride (it's 70 and hardly any wind...a perfect biking day).  *smooch*

I'm approaching a landmark number; 3,000 watchers/faves for my Etsy shop.  That's pretty incredible.  ^_^

In celebration, a mask.  Not a new design, but my most popular mask.  I guess it could be considered my "signature" mask.

So yes...if you haven't "faved" my shop, go do it!  Maybe you'll get to be "number 3000".

Well, I'm in for it now.  You all know what a technological luddite I am, right?  And yet, I was SO compelled to play Ratchet & Clank; Quest For Booty (it's only available as a download from Playstation Online) that I had Greg hook up the PS3 to the internet.  We can do that now, 'cause we have wireless.

And now there is a whole huge motherlode of games that I can buy right off of my darn TV basically.  Because it was SO easy to buy & download this game!  OMG.  I am in so much trouble.

I guess it's the wave of the future though...why would you want stacks of boxes and discs when you can just load the game right into your device?  It makes sense...

In other news, I am not well.  :-(  Some kind of stomach/intestinal thing.  I can no longer ignore it because I am bloated and miserable, with chills and possibly a fever.  I have no idea what it is, but I wish it would go away.  My bike ride yesterday...nearly a disaster.  Woe!  I'm so hungry but I'm afraid to eat anything, because it'd be like adding fuel to the fire.  Damn.  And it's a beautiful day too.

Here's something funny that Charlotte e-mailed me.   Whiffle Ball Tony.  Political and hilarious audio clip...very short; you have to listen.  ^_^"  I love it that the kid and I have the same taste in political humor.  She's through with Rugby Tyler and on to the next boyfriend, by the way.  I've decided that I have to stop writing about them in my journal (the boyfriends), because it's like I curse them or something.   I need a freaking score card (and a flow chart) to keep up with her; she's formidable this year.

Anyway...yeah.  Even though I feel awful, I just know I'm going to try to exercise today anyway, because I'm stubborn like that.  Hopefully it won't go all tragic and graphic on me.  Hmm.

EDIT:  Hey, I still have both one of those Dreamwidth codes available.  Anyone?

This is so cool; a website that uses face recognition to apply effects to your digital photos.  The dude who built it asked permission to use my masks as an effect & I said yes, because it is so cool.  Go see!

On a related note, I have been contacted by this band: Like A Storm.  They want to use my masks in a photo shoot.  I kind of like their music, so I think I'll say yes to that too.

In other news, I woke up all stressed out because I had anxiety dreams that I was back in Japan and Getting Everything Wrong.  It's easy to do, in business situations in Japan.  I didn't eat right, I spoke out of turn, I corrected the boss, I missed a meeting, I fell asleep in a meeting, I got it All Wrong.  I crashed a wedding unintentionally (when I was blundering around looking for the meeting that I missed), I make the boss's wife cry, I cried, I insulted people.  All so, so wrong.

I have to imagine it was brought on by all the Skip Beat that I'm reading.  I am coming to love the manga, but each & every chapter reminds me intensely of my experience with Monster9 (which after all is an entertainment production company in Shibuya) and I find myself second-guessing every single thing I did or said in every situation.  Which is futile.  Which is why I'm working it all out in my sleep I guess.  What a freak I am.  :-/

Busy busy...I'm working around a beautiful day here, so a bike ride is in order above all other things.  After that dream, I need a bit of a brain scrubbing and nothing works quite as well as a 30 mile trail ride.  See ya!

New masks!  Just finished this weekend.

I'm calling it a "Persian Raven", 'cause it's my old Venetian raven mask pattern with new designs similar to my Persian mask.  It is probably not the final version.  I was going with "less is more" and restraining myself from adding too many elements, but I think it might need one more layer of color.

Blue version, Char's photography, Dreamwidth codes... )
It's breezy and cool out, but eh...I think that despite the tummy bug I'm fighting, I'll go out for a long bike ride anyway.  Life is short and the sun is bright.

I did it!  I totally redesigned the kitsune so that they'd be 20% larger, yet have the same proportions of the smaller original kitsune mask.  See?  New one on the left, old design on the right for comparison.

Shaping will always play a role with these because they have such a simple outline, but really I think I came pretty darn close.  Below are two more of the new larger kits (both available right now in my Etsy shop).

bigger better frou frou foxes )
In other news; it is a gorgeous day out there.  I am going for two bike rides...not one but two!   *smooch*  Hope you are all having lovely, wonderful Fridays out there.  ^_^

The weather has been lovely this week, and I find I'm having a hard time juggling my obligation to do housework with my desire to be outside in this beautiful weather.  Also, there's all the masks that need to be made.  Thunderstorms tomorrow will be a blessing as it will remove the temptation to take off on my bike for the day.

Meanwhile, I made a new one of these:

Another Persian mask in green.  I have big plans to design a new mask, too.  One shaped like this mask:

...but with the Persian designs all over it.  Black outline, gold mosque patterns, brown and I think burgundy on the first one I make.  It's going to be pretty cool; a "Persian Raven".

Mask musings, Sasuke musings, rugby today... )
Anyway, I better eat lunch and mail my packages so I can be ready for the game.  Must cheer from the sidelines like a proper rugby mom!  Hope you are all having a lovely day.  ^_^

So, Charlotte plays rugby now.  This is my favorite picture of her, and I'll explain why at the end.

Charlotte plays almost every weekend, and sometimes in the middle of the week too.  She has a two hour practice five days a week.  On days that she's supposed to be off, she gets together with some of the girls for an informal workout.  She's loving it...says she's in the best shape she's ever been in.  I've never seen her so motivated about anything before.

So, these are the rules, apparently:
The So-Called Rules:
1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will - allegedly - create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

My five icons... )

So that's how you play this reindeer game!  Anyone who responds with "Icons" and has icons will have to do this in their own LJ, once I pick your icons.

This is a test...I'm checking out the new Dreamwidth digs.  The toolbar looks familiar enough, which is a Really Good Thing since I'm a luddite and technology gives me a rash.

I don't know if this will crosspost back to my LJ account.  I don't know if all my new LJ entries will keep showing up here or if I'll have to import them too.  So much I don't know...

I do know one thing though.  It's sort of my cardinal rule; "If you can't be competent you should at least be entertaining".  So, here's a pretty picture.

That's one of my Persian masks, which I sold at my Etsy Shop a week or so ago.  I need to make more.

So!  Pictures work, links work...this is all Good News.

More coming soon, I'm sure.

Here's a kitsune I just finished...

She's up in my Etsy shop already.  I probably have made this design before but not in these colors, and I think the gold against the white is so precious and dainty.

I have nothing of any importance to report.   Just bits & pieces of random thoughts still clinging to the inside of my head.

The Deadliest Catch (spoiler alert), random stuff about masks, bikes, weather... )
Okay, so.   The computer crisis is averted for now.  That is a good thing.  It's a lovely day again, which is another good thing.  My daffodils are blooming beautifully.  Here, have some flowers:

I just took this picture...didn't even have to mess with the colors in Photoshop 'cause it was perfect just the way it was.   The daffodils are all over the front yard.

So yeah...trying hard to calm down & be nicer, since it is SO beautiful today & my computer is limping along again in the usual way & yep.  I hate leaving a bitchy post as my "last word".

In other news; in light of my soul-searching entry regarding the value of my work (is it art or is it craft?), the fact that I spent the entire weekend making these barrettes is really very amusing.

Hahahaha!  I crack myself up.  Seriously, next time I get all "Woe!  I am a hack!", please, one of you just say

"BARRETTES"

and gently remind me that I am a whore.  An artistic, crafty whore but a whore nonetheless.  The ginkgo ones are new and cute though...no?

I just plopped 'em up on my Etsy site

BECAUSE I CAN DO THAT NOW.  BECAUSE THE PC IS WORKING AGAIN.

If the wind would just stop blowing so hard, I'd go for a nice long bike ride & calm the heck down, & everything would be just FINE.

*le sigh*

EDIT:  The wind, she has stopped!  As if a prayer has been answered.  My own little meteorological miracle.  So I'm off, for a bike ride, maybe two.  Try & stop me!

Grrrr...

Greg did something to the main home computer.   My laptop no longer links to the cable transmitter now, the icon for Linksys is flashing and broken.  So this is my only online connection.   Also, he did something to the monitor settings which I can NOT seem to undo.  Everything is teeny tiny.  Seriously...I can hardly see what I'm typing.

Every weekend he spends each and every moment playing games on this thing, & I guess that'll have to be okay.  I mean it's sad , pathetic that he spent all day Saturday (which was BEAUTIFUL) playing games on a computer (12 hours at least, on Saturday alone) inside...but whatever.  I've tried begging and I've tried threatening, so I've given up & I just go do my own thing alone (or with Charlotte) and that just seems to be the way it'll have to be.

But HOLY CRAP.  I must use this computer for business.  I have maintenance to do, each day, on my Etsy site.  I have listings to make, orders to confirm, e-mail to send...it's not like I'm just sitting here playing a game.  This is my JOB.  And today I can't do it.  The screen setting is giving me a headache and my brand new laptop has been rendered useless.

I have already bitched about this because it was messed up last night.  Apparently I did not bitch seriously enough.  This really really sucks...
