This is a test...I'm checking out the new Dreamwidth digs.  The toolbar looks familiar enough, which is a Really Good Thing since I'm a luddite and technology gives me a rash.

I don't know if this will crosspost back to my LJ account.  I don't know if all my new LJ entries will keep showing up here or if I'll have to import them too.  So much I don't know...

I do know one thing though.  It's sort of my cardinal rule; "If you can't be competent you should at least be entertaining".  So, here's a pretty picture.

That's one of my Persian masks, which I sold at my Etsy Shop a week or so ago.  I need to make more.

So!  Pictures work, links work...this is all Good News.

More coming soon, I'm sure.
Holy crap.  I can't believe I finished it.  I made about 90% of these masks while recovering from surgery...do I rock or what?

I know there's not a lot of them.  It's just that they were such complicated masks (I didn't help matters by deciding to make a Frost Dragon too...y'know, as long as I had to do a Fire Dragon anyway...).

So, details details...

So that's going out tomorrow & I'm kind of excited about it.  This is my first Mardi Gras in New Orleans!  Well...not for me but for my masks.   As I was working on the green Medusa (all green & gold with purple snake eyes...perfect Mardi Gras colors) I couldn't help daydreaming about it being worn by some beautiful woman, walking around in the French Quarter, laughing & partying & having the time of her life.  That makes me happy.  ^_^

First things first... I just want to say to all of my LJ friends who spoke up in my f-locked entry yesterday ; you guys are incredible & really, I'm so lucky to have such amazing friends.   Did you all read eachother's responses to that entry?  Because it was truly touching.   Thanks, every one of you.  *big heartfelt hug*

Now!  On to the pretty stuff!

I do not think I have properly shared the AWESOMENESS of

[profile] golden_meliadeshairsticks.  I know I go on & on...but that's not the same as a picture...& this one has crossover value, too.

Those are called "Amazon" & you can find them at her Etsy shop...right here!   She made those particular hairsticks with a couple of leather leaves I sent her once...aren't those great?  I own a couple (ok...four sets!!) of her hairsticks & I can honestly say they're the best-made, most unique sticks I've ever had.  If you're looking for something feminine & unique & frankly very affordable, give her sticks a try.

So I have a mound of boxes to mail and a mound of masks to make.  Back to work!

Rainy day.  I kept myself occupied all weekend (trying to keep my mind off my wounded car).  Here are some custom masks I just finished.
Wood Spirit.

EDIT:  OMG now Greg's car is dead too.  It died the same way.  If it's the timing belt I'm going to freaking split a seam.   I just had it towed to Mike's as well, and it's a damn good thing I have AAA.  WE HAVE NO CARS AT ALL NOW.
Yeah, that Lockport Art and Craft Show that I did over the weekend...kind of a bust.  Having never done it before, I saw the "A" word and thought "hmm!".  But really, it was mostly the "C" word there.   Lots and lots of stuff painted with cow spots, doll clothes, silk flowers, and wooden signs ("Welcome to our 'ool'...notice that there isn't any 'P' in it?")  *shrug*  Oh well.  It was a lovely weekend and I did ok I guess.  Besides...look!

I won a prize!

Hah!  Fooled ya!  You thought this was going to be another kitty entry, didn't you?  Well, it is in a way.  I just finished some cat masks.

That's Bast (Bastet...Egyptian goddess of music, fertility and the Dance), a new Venetian cat, and Sekmeht (Egyptian goddess of war).

Speaking of cats (here comes the "Kumo" part of this entry)...Kumo remains a funny funny little guy.

Some recent behavior developments:

*  Any hair left in the drain of the shower is, once dry, apparently a great cat toy.  I thought everyone was getting neater with their bathroom habits (a freaking miracle!!), and then I found Kumo's stash of swirled-up hair.  Oh, for fun.

*  In my sneakers, little toy mice.  One in the heel of each sneaker.  I think they're meant to be gifts.

*  Low-fat cottage cheese is clearly too yummy to ignore, therefor negating the "no cats on the kitchen table" law.

*  Kiba has not entered his dog bed in over a week.  It now belongs to Kumo.  I can't make Kiba get into it even if the cat isn't occupying it at the time...he just rolls his eyes at me, tucks his tail, and throws himself to the ground as if to say "this lowly dog is not worthy to share of the lion-kitty's bed".   Kumo, meanwhile, watches with half-closed eyes from his new favorite bed (the pillow on the couch) and approves.

*  My paint water is much tastier than the fresh water I fill the cat bowl with daily.

Yeah.  It's like that.  Anyway, he makes me laugh.
Well, my trip to visit my brother in Vegas has led to inspiration;  Venetian masks.

These are the "birds".  Don't ask me what kind of birds they are 'cause I don't know.  Venetain birds I guess.  Italian birds.

The designs are all very embarrassingly derivative of the masks I saw in the mask shop at The Venetian.  I liked them so much that the next day I was sketching and everything I did had gold piping and lots of swirly swirls.  Like [profile] moko_mokosaid at the time;  "It's not like you have them in front of you...so you were just inspired by them".

So yeah... here they are.

[personal profile] moonphased...if you want to be surprised in about a week, DON"T LOOK.

In other news; I just ordered some new summer clothes and new sandals (really cute Skechers, which is ironic since, heh, my brother does the commercials for them).  Hopefully everything will arrive in time for my trip to Vegas.  I need to look faaabulous, darlings.

Wow.  This weekend I suddenly realized it's been TEN years since the Summer Of Liberation.  Ten years since the divorce.  Just...huh.

Yep!  Because EVERY day ought to be Mother's Day.

I'm about to go for a bike ride with Charlotte.  We were going to go to Toronto, but I slept too late (I was up all night with Link...horay for younger men with big swords and lots of energy!!), so instead we'll hit a trail nearby.  Think we'll try one of the Clarence bike paths...now that they've caught that serial rapist/murderer I feel a LOT better about strange paths.  Can you believe that ONE guy was responsible for every attack in this region?  There's DNA evidence linking him to attacks going back over 20 years ago...sick bastard.

Anyway!

I finished a few commissions...

Just some small harliquin-type half masks...but I love the way they turned out.

*hug* for the old f-list!

I'm heading out to get all buggy & sweaty...whee!  :-)

Well, I finished them.  My Kirin.  It turns out that the one I did totally as an experiment is my favorite.   This is the black kirin.

*smooch*

The more work I did on this design, the more I said to myself "...No way."   Because it's just...well, look.
Now, THAT was a lot of fun to make.  :-)

Frankly I think they blow the Celestial Dragon away.  I used every shade of blue in my arsenal.  It might be hard to tell but the scales are metallic while I used matte colors on the fur.  I did two, with slightly different horns and slightly different color schemes.

Here is the other mask.  I call this one "Hooray For Pthalo Blue!!"

Now, if only I could scrub all the BLUE off of my hands!    :-D

I finished the new Haku mask and it was a lot more complicated than I thought it'd be.  For some reason, it turned out to be a HUGE mask.  He's a river dragon with a long dog-like face and long flowy horns and he just needed to be grand and sweeping.

As an aside, I'd just like to add that I risked my life to take these pictures.  Only outdoor light would do, but OMG it's 25 below outside, today!  I was out there for maybe a minute and by the time I came in I couldn't feel my fingers.  F-f-f-ff-frrreaking COLD, people.
Woo!  I finished my newest design and I'm very pleased with it.  I'm thinking of calling it "The Celestial Dragon".
  It's HUGE.

So enough about work!  LOL!  (Umm...that's funny because I don't really think of it as "work" in the traditional "oh crap I have to go to work & I hate my job" sense.  Me = very freaking lucky, I know.)

I sent a few packages out...one to [profile] ramblinsuze  (happy birthday, girl!), one to [personal profile] moonphased, and tomorrow I'm sending out something to [profile] rumdiculous.   Suze's is for her b-day but the other two are "just 'cause" things.  You know...just because I can.  :-)

And, in other news, in spite of the fact that I've been crazy-busy with my art, I decided to completely re-vamp my fish tank.  I'd call it a wild hair, but in reality I found it obscene to be spending an inordinate amount of time playing "Fish Tycoon" when my own real aquarium looked like a nuclear disaster had befallen it.

So now it's very pretty.  Everyone looks quite happy except for my big old Raphael catfish who wants to know where all his beautiful filth went.  I'll take some pics and put them in here later this week, because I am SO proud of all the tropical lovely.

*smooch*  Love you all.  :-)
Well, I finished my newest mask, Spriggan, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I did it three times, with three different shapes, and I did it in green leaves as well as autumn leaves.   This is meant to be a theatrical mask, for wearing, and constructive crit is VERY welcome as I have to pick the best of these three for an important project.

As promised, some pictures of my new masks.

In other news, I am SO happy that our nation's multi-billion dollar Homeland Security Act has protected us from...Meatwad.  Way to go!  Yeah, I guess if you squint and tilt your head a little, the 'Lite-Brite" display of a Moononite flipping the bird might look like a bomb.  *sigh*  Maybe I'd be more inclined to be outraged by it all if the freaking displays hadn't been out in public for weeks and weeks...I guess they SUDDENLY looked bomb-like on Wednesday (wednesdays will do that to ya...more people don tinfoil hats on wednesdays than on any other day of the week...it's true!).  What's next, exploding Wile E Coyote displays?    Beware packages that look like HUGE anvils with "ACME" printed on the sides!  We need to coin a new term for this phenomenon; "Cartoon-Terrorism".

And OMG if Sessoumaru dies I am going to be monumentally pissed-off.  It'll cause a great disturbance in The Force...almost as if millions of fangirls "squeeee!" all at once, and are silenced.  Takahashi (as I was pointing out last week) has a penchant for using "one word" titles for the chapters where characters are killed off.  "Wind" for Kagura, "Light" for Kikyo, "Void" for poor little Kanna.  I swear if I see that next week's title is something like "Pride" I am just NOT going to read it.  *shakes head*

Haha...oh holy chirping chiapets, people.  You won't believe what FINALLY appeared in my e-mail box yesterday.   Yep, the purchase order from Cirque du Soleil for the rights to reproduce this mask:

I told [profile] rumdiculous that I'd have been less surprised if my neighbor's lawn gnome came walking through my front door looking for a cup of coffee.

*smooch*  You're all so wonderful!  Feels awesome to share good news with good people.  :-)

Happy belated birthday, [profile] moko_moko!   Quick, go check out this girl's Okami art and tell her she is the reigning queen of fanart (and really, she's just an all-around great artist!  I'm in awe of her talent).

It snowed, it snowed!  Not in a scary "cut off your electricity and ravage your trees" kind of way but in a "pretty white fluffy Christmas postcard" way.  Cool!  Though, it IS freaking cold out there (seven degrees with the wind chill...brr!) so I'm really not planning to romp in it or anything.   Kiba is loving it though.  If the wind would just quit, I'd take him for a long walk.

Pictures (from just before the snow flew) of my newest mask design:
Purple ribbon....
Blue ribbon!   I flipped the design to make 'em more interesting, because they were ordered as a pair of companion masks.   Special request for a custom design, to be sent to an NYC photographer who uses the masks on his models.  He likes to just give me vague ideas and then set me loose...my favorite kind of custom order!  :-)  *spoiled brat artist*

Ribbons? )

Anyway, if you're a Stephen King fan, pick up "Lisey's Story".   You'll probably like it.

Today is X-mas card day!  I have declared it so!  I'm getting these babies finished if it kills me!  Well...I'm going to get them started, anyway.  I find it's better to underestimate my ability to complete any major task.  That way, I can pleasantly surprise myself.  Or, at the very least, not disappoint myself by failing to reach my most modest goal.  What?!   It's called bargaining!   *not in the least defensive about wacky coping skills*

Fairy art coming along nicely.   Pictures soon.  I'm in a "fairy" kinda mood, lately...no reason for it.  It's a "pretty girl with wings" thing and I'm feeling like I better work it out because otherwise it'll get distracting.  *shrug*

Dum dee dee...I'm online wasting time because my hands are KILLING me...just finished carving a new mask (brand new design) and it was a bitch on my hands.   So, break time!  I took new pics of some of my stuff.  Super high res so you know it'll stay crunchy in milk.

Wave Dragon Redux.

Boo!  I'm HUGE!!

Dragons, dragons, and more dragons.

It was warm today but not that sunny...oh well.  I bet my brother can tweak these and brighten them up somehow...he's clever that way.

*sigh*  Back to work!  I know I had other stuff to yammer about but my head is fuzzy with all the ideas I've been getting lately.  At least I'm not having a hard time coming up with new designs.

Oooh!  Before I forget, BIG thank you to [personal profile] moonphasedbecause she totally rocks and she made me the FUNNIEST icon!  Based on my Okami fanart and a comment she made in my LJ a week or so ago...I give you...the "poop" icon.
It kills me every time.  :-)    Those of you who are playing Okami and have the "brown rage" move know what this icon's all about.  Death by wolf dookie!

EDIT:  Holy creeping crap...these pictures really ARE too dark, aren't they?  *scowl*  Un-freaking-believable.  I just took a new batch because the sun peeked out briefly...SO briefly.  This is why I need my suntanning booth in the winter months; you just never get any good happy daylight.

OMG these pics better be okay because I think my hair is starting to fall out over all this picture-induced angst.  Waaah!

By the way, anyone who wants to use the "poop" icon can...just give [personal profile] moonphased credit for making it.  You can give me a mention too (if you are feeling the love) for doing the Ammy artwork.  I'm not fooling anyone...it's just a drawing of my Kiba with a little red makeup added.  :-)

I haven't slept much this week and here's why...

Random sharing of personal information...in case I die in a flaming ball of airplane doom tomorrow.

Ahh...I KNOW I had more crap to babble about but I'm tired and I have a ton of stuff to do today.  Quick shout-out to [profile] rumdiculous, who'll be back online soon, I hope.  :-)     Damn, girl!  I miss our chats!
