I haven't slept much this week and here's why...

This ended up being a family project, as I needed both Greg's and Charlotte's input to finish it right.  It was Greg's idea to make the clouds dark on the moon half and light on the sun half.  I think I might try this one next time (if there IS a next time) with a red ribbon instead of purple...but I had fun with it and I LOVED doing the clouds.   It's all Alfonse Mucha/Hokusai, y'know?  Funny that those are my favorite artists.  :-)

So, I'm taking this mask, my "dream" mask, the green man, and my happy accident Blue Wolf (the more I look at him the better I like him!) to San Francisco to show to Lahaina Gallery.  Plus pictures of my Asian Dragon plaques (which will work nicely because I noticed a bunch of Asian-influenced art at Lahaina's website) as well as pics of the coolest thingsd I did this year (copper Medusa, Ouroboros, etc...)   Maybe 15 pictures in all.   You're supposed to keep your presentation short-ish and bring a range, so I think I'm covered.    I sort of wish I could bring my watercolors too, because I'm proud of my style (my icon is one of my paintings), but I don't want to push it...I REALLY want the focus to be on the leather art.  No one does quite what I do with leather, so I ought to take advantage of that.

So!  Flying tomorrow.  Brr.  :-(  Have I mentioned I HATE flying?  Wha...only about a dozen times?   *le sigh*

At least I'm not flying today.  Weather system's coming through...the same one that caused tornadoes yesterday in the South.  It's become oddly warm and tropical out there, windy as hell, and thunderstorms (in November!  That hardly happens!) later on today.  Snow by the weekend, so I'm glad I'm missing THAT at least.

Random sharing of personal information...in case I die in a flaming ball of airplane doom tomorrow.

Item #1...  I LOVE sushi!  I didn't think I liked it, but that must be because I didn't have any good sushi.  Char has loved sushi since she was a toddler (she learned to use chopsticks like a pro when she was only two...it was adorable), but I was always sort of lukewarm about the stuff.  Now, however, it's like I'm craving it.  Damn, I love sushi!   Especially the spicy tuna roll...the chefs at Fuji Grill makes it with some kind of crunchy stuff and it is awesome.   I love miso soup too...the restaurant Char and I go to makes the most incredible miso fresh every day.  Mmmm.  *hungry*

Item #2...  I learned a new useless trick when playing Okami...it's utterly pointless but terribly cute.  When you're in Kamui, if you draw a Bloom circle around any of the local people (the ones wearing masks), they turn into wolves!  This is incredibly cute when tried on children like Laika and the little kid in the snowball place, because they turn into magic wolf puppies.   Aww!   AND, if you draw circles around the fat merchants (one in Kamui, one in Wep'kir) they turn into...fat wolves!  Too funny!  Samickle turns into an especially pretty wolf.

Item #3...  My brother just sent me a picture of his new house.  I'm...having house envy.  Ok, just look.
My house.
John's house.

See?  He totally stole my thunder.

Item #4...   OJ Simpson.  The fact that this freak is going to do a television show (on FOX, nontheless.  Which only proves that FOX is a whore, IMO) about how he "hypothetically" murdered his ex wife and her friend is disgusting and vile.  It sounds like a joke from SNL (it's actually called "If I Did It, Here's How It Happened".  Yes.  Really), but it's not.   He's basically going to confess and get paid for it.  I hope every cent he makes from this horrifying display goes to the families he still owes millions in restitution to (but I'm not going to hold my breath).  You have to wonder what this is going to do to those poor children?  Can you believe that crazy bastard actually has CUSTODY?  It makes me ill.  :-(

Ahh...I KNOW I had more crap to babble about but I'm tired and I have a ton of stuff to do today.  Quick shout-out to [profile] rumdiculous, who'll be back online soon, I hope.  :-)     Damn, girl!  I miss our chats!

In answer to your many items. . .

1. I need a recording to tell you how beautiful your masks are, because I end up saying the same thing every time! Lovely, as always. :) Oh, and Alfonse Mucha is great.

2. Have a wonderful time in San Francisco, even though you have to fly to get there. It'll be worth it. Good luck at the gallery!

3. Speaking of chats, I hope you and I get to talk sometime soon. I miss that.

4. I just shake my head in dismay and disbelief at how we reward people for being awful in this country. We give them TV shows, book deals, and fame and money through the roof. Well, I shouldn't say "we," because I have no part in it, and I doubt you do, either, but you know what I mean. Insanity, pure and simple.

5. My friend [livejournal.com profile] sundaegirl really loves sushi, too. I like it, but I'm not nuts about it, like she is.

6. House envy, indeed--although at this point, I'd just be happy to have a place of my own. But I do understand. Your brother is a lucky man. :)

Re: In answer to your many items. . .

I'm glad you like Mucha, because I'm working on something Art Nouveau-ish for you (no, I didn't forget. :-) I have half a dozen projects I've been meaning to get to...but I'm like a raven distracted by shiny buttons; I just get sidetracked). Anyway, hee! Yay for serendipity.

And yeah, John's house is simply awesome. His old place wasn't bad either...it was really cute, pretty & showy but small. This one's a freaking Southwestern castle, though. They generally don't build stuff three stories high out there 'cause of the heat (this place is called Lake Las Vegas...I dunno). I plan on visiting soon and often. :-)

Re: In answer to your many items. . .

You're working on something for me?? Awwww! *melts with delight and sends love and swears to start working on your birthday fiction ASAP*

From: [identity profile] zipis1.livejournal.com

Oh! You're coming to SF THIS weekend!? *pokes* Think you're gonna be available? ^____^

Ahahahahaha! Love the house comparison. He totally DID steal your thunder XD But thass OK, cuz yours is cute and has snow! Yay, snow!

o_O They're allowing OJ to have a show on that...and aren't taking it as a confession? That's just...wow. I don't...wow...

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Yup, I'm in SF Friday night through Tuesday...drop mt an e-mail if you want my cell phone number, ok? If you're nearby maybe we could get together...who knows? It'd be fun. :-)

Isn't John's house just awesome? I cry no fair, because it's bad enough that he's thinner and wealthier than me...does his house have to be SO much bigger?? (I'm just teasing...I'm really quite proud of my bro, he's amazing).

Yeah, the OJ thing is just...disgusting. I plan on NOT watching it. I don't care if he does a dramatization...he's a freak and an aberration and I won't pander to his need for notoriety because he's a sick bastard (not mincing words...heh). He can confess all he wants...since the trial has ended and the jury found him not guilty, he can NEVER be convicted for those murders. And you better believe he knows it. :-(

From: [identity profile] zipis1.livejournal.com

Yay! Totally looking forward to it :D Ummm...what IS your e-mail? Tried looking, but couldn't find it :( Or, you know...you could give it to me at vgamewhiz@hotmail.com. Hopefully you get this before you fly away ;P

Well MY house is just as big (or so it looks). We'll just ignore the fact that it's not actually MINE to make us feel better :P I still say yours is cute, though ^____^

*sigh* True. There should be eceptions to that rule. I mean, what if the trial JUST gets dismissd after finding someone guilty of murder, and he turns around and goes, "Oh! By the way. I DID do it. Haha, suckers!!" You'd think that'd be good enough. :/

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

I know OJ can't be convicted of the murders, but he CAN be convicted of committing perjury, which carries a huge sentence when it's in relation to a murder hearing. That's how you sort of get around the whole thing, if you're a prosecutor who couldn't get the conviction...you just watch and wait. That's why I HOPE that creep slips up (so far he's been very careful to point out that this is all "hypothetical") and gets nailed for perjury. That's as close to justice as the whole thing will ever get, IMO.

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Whee! I just sent you my cell #, so we should be all set. I hope we can get together and hang out and shop (Moko moko will vouch for me...I'm a dangerous shopper)...and maybe eat sushi!!! OMG yes.

From: [identity profile] golden-meliades.livejournal.com

This is one of those times you REALLY want to believe in karma. I never watch ANY reality TV or anything related to it (except home-dec shows, which are more documentary like, imo, than about sensationalism) so of course I won't watch the other show either...I've hated OJ since high school. I didn't watch the chase on TV, I didn't watch the trials...that man is making NO money off him, and I won't even talk about him irl because I'm not helping him stay famous. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't exist.

But I can stop for a minute to hope that something really, really horrible happens to him on a live taping of his show, that'd be great. (I never claimed to be nice!)

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

I'm hoping he slips up and perjures himself...he'll go to jail so fast his head will spin. At this point, the only thing that'll ever land OJ in jail will be his big mouth and his need for attention. It could happen, y'never know. *shrug*

From: [identity profile] rumdiculous.livejournal.com

OMG that mask!! My love for all things involving crecent moons and suns is flaring up. (You should see my bedroom...the border is swirly clouds with moons, stars and suns.) I love the dark clouds on the other side of the ribbon! That's a fabulous touch.

ooh!! Good luck at the event dear God, don't crash in your plane!

I'm getting to where I crave sushi at random times. It's like one of those sudden cravings with no prompting. Just "la de da-OMG I WANT SUSHI NOW." Kind of like sherbert.

Dude. John lives in a castle. lol

Grrr. OJ Simpson. He has a karmic dept to be paid in full and it's not going to be pretty. >:(

I wanna chat too! Grr. *kicks Dell*

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Yay, I'm glad you liky the mask. :-) I love the celestial theme...I've done a few designs based on that motif but this one by far is the most dramatic.

The sushi cravings ARE a little disconcerting...but at least that stuff's good for you. Holy crap I better not be pregnant... "@_@"

Here's what...you and I are SO going to Vegas to stay at John's castle (he's calling it "Chateau Masse") and we will hit the casinos and see some shows and get real tans. This is only a plan in its infancy but OMG would it not be awesome?? I don't know about you but I BADLY need a real vacation (not this wedding thing I'm doing this weekend, either).

From: [identity profile] rumdiculous.livejournal.com

...I just realized that I ramble like I'm on crack or something. lol Random subjects all over the place. XD

If you were pregnant...I don't know what I'd say. Sorry?

DUDE I would love to see Vegas (and John's castle)!! Seriously I do need a vacation. Luckily I'm actually getting income so I could go somewhere. I've never been out west before. I'm intrigued by the desert. Plus ya know casinos would be fun to see. :D

From: [identity profile] ramblinsuze.livejournal.com

I am so in awe of your talent. That is so beautiful!!! Dark clouds were a great idea! (I dunno about the red ribbon, though - seems like it might be a bit too stark against the blue...a muted pink or orange, maybe? Not that I know what I'm talking about or anything...I'll shut up now... *grin*)

Power of positive thinking, my friend. Your flight(s) will be totally fine. Your flight will be fine. Your flight will be fine...

O.J....I couldn't believe it when I saw the ads. Sick. Just...sick.

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Thank you...I like the mask too! :-) I hope it's not too...obscure a motif though. *shrug* I hate looking like a dilettante.

See...that's how I KNOW my fear of flying isn't reasonable or rational. Char's flying too...but I'm not worried that SHE will die, just me. Because I'm certain that MY plane is the doomed one. It's so illogical, I know. :-/

OJ is a creepy bastard and I am not watching that TV show no matter what. It's just wrong and to watch it would be to condone his behavior and I refuse to do that. I wish everyone would just boycott FOX (except for House...).

From: [identity profile] moko-moko.livejournal.com

OMG, isn't the Kamui bloom the BEST thing ever?! After realizing the sparrows with the trays in Sasa Sanctuary do adorable things when you circle them , it was like a sickness "look, a person! COME HERE AND LET ME DRAW BLOOM ON YOU!"

Good luck in SF this weekend! ^___^

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

I never tried drawing circles on the sparrows! I'll have to do that. I can NOT get 100% completion because I don't have all my freaking fish. I'm so SICK of the fishing game.

OMG I need a real life...this game has sucked my soul out of my nose with a straw, obviously.

Thanks for the good wishes! I'm a bit nervous but I'm also looking forward to showing off my stuff. I printed out the neatest business cards too...they have pictures of my masks on the back (I did some with the blue wolf, the copper Medusa, the ivy mask, and my firecat). They're like collectible trading cards now! I'm thinking my business card will be more difficult to forget with pretty stuff right on it, y'know?

From: (Anonymous)

Wow. Just wow. Have I mentioned recently what an amazing artist you are? Bob bought me a swivel knife for Christmas last year - after the great shoe-making success I thought I'd give carving a try just for fun. I haven't had the nerve to give it a shot yet. I SO wish you lived closer!

Maybe a dark red for the ribbon? The purple kind of blends in - you get demarcation, but not enough contrast for it to be identifiably a ribbon without thinking about it. Bright red wouldn't look right though. Burgundy?

Sushi is wonderful! My first apprentice took me out for sushi for my birthday about six years ago, and I've adored it ever since. Another one of the assistants and I have decided that we're going to declare lunch one day a week to be "sushi day" and go out for it.

I don't worry about flying as much as you do, except during takeoffs and landings. That's when I think about the fact that there's nothing holding all this metal up in the air but a few obscure laws of physics that I don't understand... Luckily my husband the aerospace engineer knows all the right things to say. The day HE won't fly is when I call it quits.

John's house is amazing. *I* have house envy. But you know what? My house is *mine.* I waited twenty years and worked my behind off for it, and it's mine. Gutters full of oak leaves and all (I've discovered the down side to those huge trees right by the house.) That's pretty cool. You have got to come see it if you pass through CT. Are you still doing the Long Island thing?

I refuse to even know about the OJ thing. The phrase "morally bankrupt" is coming to mind, and I work WAY to close to people who think up shows like that. The way we pander ourselves to survive...

Hey - I found my drawing board under the pile of crap I put on it. One step closer to being a scribe again!

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Haha, thank ya kindly. :-) I think you are absolutely right about the ribbon color...burgundy was MY second thought (my first was obviously purple, but it's too close in hue to the clouds...there's a lot of blue in there) I think the contrast would be perfect but not too gaudy.

OMG sushi...we must go out for sushi sometime. Nevermind about the logistics, it must be done.

Yes, we are still going to Long Island, by the way. Going to I-Con again (it was a great show last year...so good that I pre-paid for this year), so I think maybe we should try to get together. You guys would love I-Con, it's a hoot with something for everyone. Plus, we could certainly partake of the aforementioned sushi! They actually have a sushi bar right there on the Stonybrook campus, can you believe it?

Yay for the finding of the drawing board! You have to get back to work or you'll get rusty.

You are my last response before the terribly frighteningly long flight of flaming doom. :-( I've had only 2 hours of sleep and I'm full of green tea and fear. Waah. *needs sleepy-making meds*

From: [identity profile] firegazer.livejournal.com

Holy wow, Batman! Gah, that mask is amazing! I love the abstract stuff in the middle!

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Thank you! :-) It was a gift for my Mom in Law and she loved it (so yay)!
