Twitches seem nasty...but they work. For both horses ~and~ myself. Keeps us from bolting off in a panic. ;-)
That Phoenix mask ~is~ really shiny, literally. I mix my own colors, so the flames are a combination of red/metallic copper shading to metallic gold at the tips. The base color is red, hand-dyed and then washed with brown antique stain to give it a rich oxblood tint. I used bright fire-engine red on the little face feathers. Then I seal the whole thing with a high-gloss clear acrylic, so...SHINY! I don't know, but for some reason I like using metallic paints on my fantasy masks (probably goes way back to those fantasy movies of the '80's, when, as you said, "glitter = magic!").
