If your cam is at all new, it should have a fair bit of resolution but it can be set lower. I set mine at about 3 mp per picture because the top setting, between five and 6 mp, was so huge that the picture wouldn't display on my screen unless I de-magnified it down to about 25%, and the files were HUGE.
So your camera *might* have higher resolution than you're actually using. Have you still got the manual?
