Meow!

Hah!  Fooled ya!  You thought this was going to be another kitty entry, didn't you?  Well, it is in a way.  I just finished some cat masks.

That's Bast (Bastet...Egyptian goddess of music, fertility and the Dance), a new Venetian cat, and Sekmeht (Egyptian goddess of war).

I've been making Bast masks for years.  She's a perennial favorite.  Sometimes, I even give her one shiny brass earring (because in sculpture she's often depicted that way).  Utterly feminine mask & very cute.

I got the idea for Sekmeht almost verbatim from King Tut's famous golden throne.  The blue simulates lapis inlay.

The Venetian Cat is by far my current favorite.  I did it with the black and red juxtaposed...it's a calico!  Once again, swirls = fun.  I HOPE this is a popular mask, because I could make these all day.

Speaking of cats (here comes the "Kumo" part of this entry)...Kumo remains a funny funny little guy.

Some recent behavior developments:

*  Any hair left in the drain of the shower is, once dry, apparently a great cat toy.  I thought everyone was getting neater with their bathroom habits (a freaking miracle!!), and then I found Kumo's stash of swirled-up hair.  Oh, for fun.

*  In my sneakers, little toy mice.  One in the heel of each sneaker.  I think they're meant to be gifts.

*  Low-fat cottage cheese is clearly too yummy to ignore, therefor negating the "no cats on the kitchen table" law.

*  Kiba has not entered his dog bed in over a week.  It now belongs to Kumo.  I can't make Kiba get into it even if the cat isn't occupying it at the time...he just rolls his eyes at me, tucks his tail, and throws himself to the ground as if to say "this lowly dog is not worthy to share of the lion-kitty's bed".   Kumo, meanwhile, watches with half-closed eyes from his new favorite bed (the pillow on the couch) and approves.

*  My paint water is much tastier than the fresh water I fill the cat bowl with daily.

Yeah.  It's like that.  Anyway, he makes me laugh.

I like the black one. I was thinking it reminded me of something egyptian, and then found out why!! XDDDD

Poor Kiba :) How do you deal with the dominance thing? I had a ferret named Lily once, and and when we got Chinook the other ferret, Chinook used to beat the tar out of Lily when Lily tried to sleep in her favorite spot. I always interfered until Chinook let Lily have her spot. Do you do that with Kumo and Kiba, or do you just let them figure it out for themselves?

Here's my opinion on the Venetian Cat - make one like that only with blue instead of red and I'll buy it. Right here, right now. I'll send you the check and pick it up at Pennsic. Speaking of which, are there winter dragons percolating in your artist's subconscious?

As far as Kumo's antics - we have to shake our shoes out before we can put them on. He likes to put his toys into things so that he can have fun fishing them out. Boots are the best. That can require the front half of the cat to crawl in. I've always had trouble keeping the cats out of my rinse water. They also like my toothpaste water when I'm trying to brush my teeth. Anything but their own.

These are amazing! I love Bast, and Sekhmet is awesome! They're really appealing to my inner Egyptologist. ^_^ Venetian cat is gorgeous, though. I think it'll definitely be a popular design.

And it sounds like Kumo and my cat Chloe would either be best friends or try to kill each other. They are so much alike!

Hee. Inevitably, the first glimpse of image, before I'd even gone to the text, had me squealing "BAST! OOOH PRETTY BAST! Please tell me she does Anubis and Sekhmet too!". And then the rest loaded and I scrolled down and lo, there was more squee. :)

Lovely, utterly lovely, the rich golds and lapis and carnelian shades are just utterly perfect, and I'd love to see one with an earring or two. I'm just a fiend for Egyptian art so those really make me smile.

Oooooh! Gorgeous cat masks. Bast is always a fave, Sekmeht is fabulous, and the Venetian cat is so much fun (swirlies!). One of these days I will have extra funds and snatch up a bunch of your work.

As for Kumo...hee! My shoes are wisely put away (after being chewed by doggies and horked in by kitties, I learned that the closet was the best place for them!), but Kiri just looooooves these cheap little toy mice that I had bought for Jack. One of them is somewhere in the kitty ether, but the other two have been *scalped*! She managed to pry the fur covering off of the little plastic noisemaking bit beneath...so now I have little mice pelts decorating my living room! XDDD

I love, love, love the swirls. Gorgeous!
