Hah!  Fooled ya!  You thought this was going to be another kitty entry, didn't you?  Well, it is in a way.  I just finished some cat masks.

That's Bast (Bastet...Egyptian goddess of music, fertility and the Dance), a new Venetian cat, and Sekmeht (Egyptian goddess of war).

I've been making Bast masks for years.  She's a perennial favorite.  Sometimes, I even give her one shiny brass earring (because in sculpture she's often depicted that way).  Utterly feminine mask & very cute.

I got the idea for Sekmeht almost verbatim from King Tut's famous golden throne.  The blue simulates lapis inlay.

The Venetian Cat is by far my current favorite.  I did it with the black and red juxtaposed...it's a calico!  Once again, swirls = fun.  I HOPE this is a popular mask, because I could make these all day.

Speaking of cats (here comes the "Kumo" part of this entry)...Kumo remains a funny funny little guy.

Some recent behavior developments:

*  Any hair left in the drain of the shower is, once dry, apparently a great cat toy.  I thought everyone was getting neater with their bathroom habits (a freaking miracle!!), and then I found Kumo's stash of swirled-up hair.  Oh, for fun.

*  In my sneakers, little toy mice.  One in the heel of each sneaker.  I think they're meant to be gifts.

*  Low-fat cottage cheese is clearly too yummy to ignore, therefor negating the "no cats on the kitchen table" law.

*  Kiba has not entered his dog bed in over a week.  It now belongs to Kumo.  I can't make Kiba get into it even if the cat isn't occupying it at the time...he just rolls his eyes at me, tucks his tail, and throws himself to the ground as if to say "this lowly dog is not worthy to share of the lion-kitty's bed".   Kumo, meanwhile, watches with half-closed eyes from his new favorite bed (the pillow on the couch) and approves.

*  My paint water is much tastier than the fresh water I fill the cat bowl with daily.

Yeah.  It's like that.  Anyway, he makes me laugh.

These are amazing! I love Bast, and Sekhmet is awesome! They're really appealing to my inner Egyptologist. ^_^ Venetian cat is gorgeous, though. I think it'll definitely be a popular design.

And it sounds like Kumo and my cat Chloe would either be best friends or try to kill each other. They are so much alike!

Thank you...I'm a frustrated Egyptologist too. :-) I was such a nerd that in college I ended up majoring in archeology...mostly because I remembered how COOL it was to look at ancient things (I saw the Tut exhibit when I was 12). Even though all the sites I worked on were Iroquois (& not Egyptian) it was STILL quite neat.

Kumo loves other cats...they'd probably get along great!

Hey now! I'm going for a Ph.D in anthropology...

I came to anthropology through archeology, though more new world--Mayan, Incan, and Aztec, primarily. I don't have the patience nor the mental mindset to be a good archaeologist, though--my sense of spatial relations isn't strong enough--and the questions I was most interested in were better studied by anthropology where we can study actual interactions and talk to living people.

I got to see the King Tut exhibit in Chicago, and it was incredible.

I love your new masks.
