Yay!  Inauguration Day is here!  Char and I (and I think almost everyone I know) are so excited...we can't wait to see it all happen.  Good luck President Obama!  We're all counting on you.

I had a very busy weekend; I finished another of those big dramatic dragon masks.

I'm calling it a "Royal Dragon", 'cause it's purple & bronze on black, y'know.  Original!

It's up in Etsy, as well as on my DeviantArt site.  It was kind of funny because the light outside today was perfect for photography, but there was a light snowfall so you can see little snowflakes all over the place in my pictures!  Oh well.  ^_^

I'm pretty happy with it.   This second one was more fun to make.   I knew exactly what I was doing.

I am also working on another "bronze" mask...I decided to do a ancient bronze "Bast" mask.  She's the Egyptian cat goddess.  Mel pointed out (I think it was Mel) that I could do gods & stuff like that with that bronze verdigris color treatment, & I researched Egyptian art & saw that they made bronze statuary quite a lot...apparently Egypt was full of copper!   So, I'm making a greenish bronze cat.  I think it'll be cool.

I am out of almost everything that I need to make my art.   No more green dye, no more blue dye, very little red.  No big leather either...it's all gone.  I have a new hide coming, though it won't be here until next week probably.  I MUST go downtown tomorrow as I am in dire need of everything else...the hide will be delivered but everything else can only be found at this ONE little ancient leather goods shop in downtown Buffalo.  It's family-owned & has been there since before there were cars (it did a thriving harness-repair business & the 100+ year old sign still says that)...every time I walk in there I am reminded of what a HUGE anachronism I am.  ^_^  Actually I kind of like that...

Anyway, back to work!  Love you all!

EDIT:  Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson !!  What a perfectly fabulous day to celebrate...go turn on CNN and look at all those joyful faces on the Mall in DC; I couldn't imagine a better present.  ^_^

That's gorgeous! The dramatic colors work very well for this mask, I think.

I'm excited to see the Bast mask--actually, I'm always excited to see every mask all the time. Whenever you post a new mask it's like getting candy for the eyeballs ^_^

Thanks! & thank you for enjoying the pictures...I know I always seem to be showing off something or another in here & sometimes I feel bad for doing that. Ever since Dad died, this has become my best & most honest feedback when I need an opinion...art created in a vaccuum is hardly art, in my opinion, because art needs an audience. It's all about perceptions & if I don't know how it is perceived, I can't really know if I'm getting it "right".

Anyway...*hug* You're the best. ^_^

I did tell you before this purple dragon was my favorite, like all time favorite. Someone said definitely lots of positive energy goes into making something like this. Take a pic of that shop sign for us. The history of the east coast is baffling. I'll sign my messages, It's Carol! Love.

Hee! Really? No, I honestly didn't know that you liked the purple best! I've been doing so very many different pieces lately.

I can usually glean that it's you Carol...some small clue or another. ;-)

Your recent masks have all been absolutely stunning - well your work always is but you're taking it to new and dizzy heights of splendidness (if that is a word).

This one rocks - the bronze masks are gorgeous also.

Thanks so much! I guess when my bike paths are closed by snow & I have no other outlet to make me happy, I retreat into creative bliss. Winters suck for me personally, but I'm beginning to see that creatively they are my best season.

Only 47 days until we get to put our clocks forward again...

I like the 'horns' on this one. For some reason I'm not crazy about twisty horns.

Hey....PINK dragon! ;)

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

47 days...I can totally live with that! That doesn't seem bad at all. Thanks! ^_^

Uh oh...does he look pink to you? I mixed a lot of blue in there actually...it's more of a wisteria than a plum...

From: [identity profile] golden-meliades.livejournal.com

Oh no, I'm sorry...pink was a sort of joke suggestion (you know me and all my suggestions). He does NOT look the least bit pink. I've never seen you do a pink dragon, that's why I said it :)

46 days, now. :)

I think it's safe to say you will never see me do a pink dragon. Or, perhaps I will do one, one day, and you can all take it as a sign that I have lost my mind! ;-)

46 days & counting!

Whoo hoo! You've been a very busy bee lately, and you have beautiful work to show for it.

I love it that you get your materials from an old store like that--that's very cool.

I'm very excited about the inauguration today! I wonder how many people will actually get work done today--it seems like everyone I know is either watching from home and figuring out ways to follow it from work.

Thanks, yes! I am being terribly productive. I'm almost TOO productive...people in my DA site are like "do you EVER rest?"

OMG I know...I'm so hopeful about this next administration. I feel like FINALLY there are people in the White House who are reflecting my wishes & values. A more kind, inclusive, productive & SMART administration...that's what I badly need to see.

Re: "Royal Dragon"

Hee! It's okay I do it too. My favorite mask is usually the last one I made. ^_^
