But first, a little interlude I like to call "Apocalypse Panda".
"This is the end...beautiful friend. The end..."

A friend sent him to me saying "isn't he cute??" And I'm like "Hmm...no! Scary! Like Martin Sheen at the end of Apocalypse Now, getting ready to kill Kurtz." Seriously. Look at him. "I like the smell of panda chow in the morning. It smells like...victory."
Yep! Anyway! Yesterday I got more pretty things in the mail, (well, one pretty thing and a bill) so I must share. You all know by now that I have a penchant for pendants, right? For a person who likes pendants, Etsy can be a dangerous place. The other day I found this shop (full of lampwork glass beads MY FAVORITE!!) and I've been coveting the Beach Heart ever since. I finally caved and bought one, and it is exquisite. Really. (forgive my mug in these pics...I havn't been to bed yet so, VERY tired & it shows).

I wasn't sure exactly how to wear it, because it's too large for a dainty silver chain. So, I went to AC Moore and bought some hemp cord in different colors & thicknesses and I made a short hemp necklace for it (with connectors and a clasp in back 'cause I don't know how to make hemp knot necklaces). The hemp looks like dried dune grasses to me, so it fits with the theme of the bead I think.
And wow...isn't that THE most amazing glass bead you've ever seen? It's all handmade...no two are exactly alike. There's a teeny sea star in the curl at the bottom of the heart. The sea foam isn't pure white; it has a little eggshell & brown mottling it, and the glass is a matte finish...not shiny. In short it's all my favorite things! Glass, handmade, heart-shaped, ocean-y, and all my favorite colors! Mary Jarvis is one incredible artisan...I'm a huge fan now & I just bought a second Beach Heart for my sister (to thank her for the awesome job she did on my Facebook ad which is being wildly successful for me right now).
Keeping with the theme, here are pictures of the beautiful pendant
golden_meliades sent me for Friends Day...aptly titled "Beach".

I strung it on a slightly longer cord than I used for the Beach Heart. It was on a silver chain yesterday, but I liked the hemp look so well that I thought it might be nice for this pendant too. I like the contrasting colors & textures of this pendant, so I copied that by stringing it on both leather cord and hemp cord, together. It's so lightweight I don't even know I'm wearing anything.
Mel made this pendant with a fascinating combination of wood, handmade paper, wire and glass beads. She just started making these recently and I'm wild about them (you can see more at her shop)...she's so talented!
So there you go. Two more lovely beachy necklaces in my favorite colors, to add to the collection. It's my only vice (besides chocolate), what can I say? As vices go, this one is pretty mild. There's no "pendant-holics anonymous" yet, as far as I know (though I'd make a pretty good charter member).
In other news; I just got involved in a really cute Etsy promotion called "Etsy Artists EXPOSED"...a way to promote Etsy sellers. You have to make a listing where the main picture is of yourself, rather than the item you're selling. Here's my listing: ( EXPOSED! ). I think it turned out pretty neat. The woman who runs the promotion will include the listing in her series of treasury showcases...they get great publicity & end up on the front page all the time.
golden_meliades , you should TOTALLY do this too! You're so cute, it'd surely be a great promotional tool for both you & your work and best of all it is free. Just follow my formula & send a convo to VickiDianeDesigns when it's up in your shop, & she'll do the rest. Do it do it!! *bounce* Tell Vicki I sent you (that goes for any other Etsy folks out there in LJ Land, as well).
The Facebook ad is being very very good to me. I'm feeling grateful and a little Karmically unbalanced....must think of a good thing to do, to pass it on. To be so busy in a time of national economic crisis is a precious thing & not to be taken lightly.
*smooch* Love you all. ^_^

So...you make a listing of anything at all, but the primary photo has to be of YOU? How odd. :) Should you be wearing the item you're selling, or does that not matter?
I'm willing to do it...when is the deadline? Which picture should I use? I just have so darned many!
Glad you like Beach; the two brown cords look perfect...one is the colour of the paper and the other the darker brown of the wooden base. :)

Yep! The listing can be for any item. I've seen people use any picture at all of themselves so it doesn't have to be related to the item you're selling. No deadline...it's an ongoing promotion (but if you hurry you can maybe be in the same treasury that I end up in, whichever one that is, & wouldn't that be fun?).
Use any pic, but I think you took one of yourself wearing one of the little flower clippies you made (if I'm remembering right!)...if the listing was also for the flower clippie it'd really look nice & be a cute listing too! Just an idea. You might prefer to feature a hairstick though, 'cause those are your main items.

Also, I've been trying to find your FaceBook page for your shop - or are you just running an ad without a shop page?
My shop page on FB is here, if you'd like to flip through it.

No, I don't actually have a Facebook page at all (though I should 'cause my bro & sis are both there)...I'm just running a little ad. Whether it pops up on your page or not depends on what state you live in, your age, and your listed interests. The demographics are very precise.

My husband, the IT genius, is actually having reservations about me having a FaceBook account - largely due to the number of virii and worms out there that are now based on the interactivity of the social networking sites like FB and MySpace. I tend to limit the number of applications I accept, and clean my computer weekly of malaware and the like. But I understand the concern.
Personally, I think a FaceBook ad would be a good thing, once we are settled into the new house. I'm kicking off a moving sale on Monday, to help clear stuff out before closing, and I hope the custom order requests I get in remain smallish in the meantime (it'd help to regain some of the $ spent in inspection, etc!).
There's also some discussion going on in the FAETeam thread, concerning the FaceBook Terms of Service. You do have watermarks on your photos on Facebook, no?

I chose that one just because I like that photo...dunno why, I just do, and it's newer than my other favourites...and I stuck it with an older listing that seems fairly in keeping with what I'm wearing, style-wise. I don't know why I thought that was necessary but...whatever, right? THe brain works in mysterious ways.
I sent Vicki Diane a convo with the listing link. I hope that's all I needed to do? I can always change it. :)

I've been having trouble selling that blue/silver one for a while, and that's the only choker I have a good shot of on my personage in my albums, since I haven't been wearing many of my own items until recently....

What's in your hair? Some sort of ribbon twined with wire and beads, maybe? I like it...a little less formal than a tiara but still daintily pretty. :)

The thing in my hair is a copper laurel wreath. (It's an SCA thing).
A friend of mine - crazywillo on Etsy - made it for me when I was elevated to the Order of the Laurel for my work in C&I. Let me see if I have a pic of it on Flickr... She pressed real laurel leaves into it to get the veins, and the berries I think are aventurine, or jade.
Here's a closeup - you can see the veins:

And here's a better shot of it on my head. (This thing catches hair like crazy, I've been pondering bugging Andrea here about making a leather headband one, if she's up for it).

There is actually a group of SCAdians over on Etsy in a semi-organized state, we just haven't gone 'official' yet. Do a search in the Forums for SCA and you might find the thread...
Maybe I should just get off my duff and lead the team, since nobody's jumped on it yet.

Thanks. :) This was my first impulse for a photo of me and I wobbled quite a bit in the decision but in the end just went with my first thought.

My LJ friend here, Wildwose, is on Etsy too & is in fact a guy (another maskmaker!) so I will alert him to "EXPOSED" as well. He's kinda cute & so is his family! He'll make a nice listing I'm sure.
I'm leading a conga line to your forum...hee! ^_^
Thanks so much Vicki (glad you like the panda...he is not to be trifled with though!).
