Happy 16th birthday, Charlotte!
Because it's a weird little family tradition, I give you cake pictures!

I don't know WHY we love to take pictures of celebratory cakes...we just do it.  Everybody has to pose with the cake, & the goofier you look, the better.  Char with cake...
Yes I know...I still have my Christmas Cards taped to the china closet,  I just kind of like them there...they are cheerful ( & the one Kij sent still makes me giggle).
Grandma & Char.  And a cake!
 Awww!

Me & Char.  And a cake, which is so yummy that I will STEAL it & eat it soon if the cake pics don't stop.

Finally, Char and newish boyfriend person.   And a cake.   They are supremely cute & trendy together...

She says that when he pouts he looks just like "L" from "Death Note".    Reason enough to put up with boyfriend drama (for now).  I have some interesting observations to make on Char's dating habits of late...but that'll have to go in a F-locked entry 'cause, personal.    Suffice to say, if I'd been as logical & confident when I was a teen/younger person, I'd have made a LOT les foolish choices.  I'm rather proud of my kid; she's so incredibly balanced lately!  ^_^

In other news; it was a gray day, but a good one.  I've been riding my bike in spite of the wintry cold temps of the last few days, but today while I was out there on the trail it started at 50 & got all the way up to 60 by the time I finished!  It was so fine, I even got the dog & did another 6 miles with him (half of it was on a new wooded trail that was bumpy but lovely, & he had SO much fun).

The weather's supposed to turn; it smells like thunderstorms out there right now & a cold front is heading this way.  Ooooh...I hope we have a nice spring thunderstorm!!

So I just had a simply awesome turkey sandwich on rye, & it's back to work for me.  I have things to make for this weekend (I'm actually doing an SCA event...for the first time in almost 2 years!  Basically I'm just doing it to see some old friends), also my Etsy site is emptying out so I have to re-stock that too.   Making a late dinner for Mom who is coming over to watch Survivor tonight (for some reason it's on tonight instead of Thursday).   Busy busy!

*Hugs*  Love you all!

Charlotte really is awfully pretty. And I notice her face keeps getting more and more refined. When I first met you, she was 12, and her face was rounder and younger, but she looks more like a grown-up every time you post pictures. She's got a lovely oval face and great cheekbones and a cute little chin. Lucky her :) (Her hair looks great, too. I knew that's the one thing I would miss about straight hair...the glorious shine I used to have. Curly hair simply can't shine as much as straight hair.)

That cake is so cute, with all the daisies. The sea-foam colour is unusual, too (one of the walls of my bedroom used to be that colour, almost exactly.) What kind of cake was it?

Char reminds me so much of Natalie Portman...IRL she looks a lot like her. Also, oddly (since she is a tiny peanut; not even 5 feet tall & weighs like 110) she is constantly mistaken for a college student. Seriously, people estimate her to be in her mid-20s all the time (which pleases her immensely). I, on the other hand, looked like an 18 year old when I was 30 (which also pleased me immensely). When people see us together they say we look alike, & yet when she is with her Dad, people say she looks just like him. I think she looks exactly like Charlotte. ;-)

The cake story is funny. We LOVE cakes from the Dessert Deli...a really upscale place in Amherst that makes designer cakes (they made our wedding cake based on a sketch I did). Char REALLY wanted a Dessert Deli cake & I almost forgot. So, I called them last Friday, not wanting to be troublesome. I said "I'll just want a simple 8 inch round golden cake with vanilla buttercream on the outside & a layer of chocolate buttercream inside (Char's drop-dead favorite...exactly like our wedding cake). & the manager happened to remember me & she said "C'mon...you NEED decorations!" & I said "...daisies? & 'Happy 16th Charlotte'?" & she said "Sure! Now what color?" & I'm like "Light green, her favorite!" & she said "DONE!" & that's how I ended up with a designer cake two days later. That place totally rocks.

Lol, I got both. When I was twelve people thought I was 18. (Might have been the boobs...they were a D when I was 12. Oh and I guess I was already five foot five, as I was my full height of five seven by the time I entered high school at 14.) But after I got to about 24, people started guessing me younger. It's like I wasn't allowed to pass 20 for...well, actually people are STILL guessing me at 'about 20'. (They just are certain I must still be in college. I get that all the time. It's funny because every time I go out with my sister, who is of course younger than me, I get treated like the baby and people address HER as though she's the big sis.)

It's a very pretty cake :) Though the daisies don't look tasty. (They look hard.) But they're adorable. :)

Cake Pics

My family does that too! I have TONS of birthday cake pics. :)

Char is so lovely. Yeah for balance and logic in our young people! Bodes well for our twilight years, not so?

Re: Cake Pics

We love cake pics here...we mark the passage of time with cakes.

My favorite cake pic is one of my Dad & myself laughing at the "yule log" cake I made for christmas about 10 years ago. It's this awesome-looking yule log with marzipan mushrooms and candy mint leaves and sculpted chocolate "bark"...but you see, I had NO idea how to do a proper cake roll. When I went to roll it, it just kept breaking. I ended up stacking the whole mess, fusing it together with jelly, mashing it into a rough log shape with my hands, freezing it so I could cover it with frosting, & then not telling anyone. Except I HAD to tell my Dad 'cause he kept saying how incredible it looked & what a good job I'd done...& we captured that moment of hilarious confession "The cake is a sham. The cake is structurally unsound if it thaws. Take the picture QUICK!"

That's a beautiful cake! And, hey, we all have to have our goofy traditions. Tell Charlotte "belated happy birthday" for me. :)

Isn't it an adorable cake for a sweet 16 year old? ^_^ It is just the kind of cake Char loves too. I will pass along birthday wishes.

Thanks! There is always a cake picture...even if it's one of my simple silly pan cakes with chocolate jimmies sprinkled all over it (Char used to call them "ants").

Happy Birthday Charlotte! You've got a great mom with a good head on her shoulders - a great role model for you.

Keep up the good work - you've got the world ahead of you.
