Yeah.  "1, 2, 3...Kalamazoo!"  I'm bringing a bunch of new masks, new stuff that I came up with just for this show (since it's my first time as an exhibitor there and I'm all about shock and awe).  So, I combined my traditional fox mask with another popular motif I use often and came up with...Ivy Fox.

Now that I see it, it's a little Christmas-y.  Meh.  :::shrug:::   Also, I want to do something similar, but with grapes and grape leaves.  You know, like from Aesop's Fables, the fox and the grapes.  It's just an idea.

Also!  I managed to find enough leather (I nearly ran out of cow!) to do another dragon mask.

That stone I used for inlay is called a snake eye.  It's like the cat's eye cabochons I've used in the past, but...swirly.  It was a silvery black stone, but I didn't want to do a black and silver dragon again.  So...really really red, with black and silver.  Shock and Awe, baby.

And, I'm out of here.  Back on Sunday, hopefully with wads and wads of cash.  :-)

Just so you know, I think that dragon mask is gorgeous. It's almost mesmerizing, really. Good luck with selling! /random drive-by comment :P

It'd go with your new stick, Zipi. ;)

I like the fox. He almost looks like he's wearing ivy for an earring :) Hey, why does the dragon have two sets of horns? Am i mis-seeing, or do you just see them that way? Or are you basing them on a particular type of dragon?

I used to do the dragons with just two horns, and the occasional person would call it a goat. >:-,

So I started doing them with four horns just to clear up any confusion. Since I started doing them that way, I've actually seen some 15th century Japanese woodcuts of dragons with multiple horns, so I guess there's some validation!

Thank you. :-) I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. Flashy. I have to put it up on my website, I think.

I saw your hairstick...so pretty! Has the same color scheme. Black, red, and silver just look good together.

That dragon mask...is so freakin cool!!! It looks so wicked (although the ears strike me as cute because they are so little ^^') and that stone is such an interesting touch. I love the scale texture. How long did this take you?

It's funny, that red dragon ~does~ look wicked. I've done that particular mask before, just recently in green and copper, but the red and black combination is especially sinister. Neat!

Dragon masks usually take me between four and five hours from start to finish. The first few I made took a lot longer, but each time I do a design I get more efficient and it takes less time.

People see Red & Black as Danger & Death. Plus red is such a bold, strong color that I am violently attracted to. So naturally I'm in love with this mask.

Stone

I like the stone very much. Where do you get them? I'd like to find a source.

Re: Stone

I get all my cabochons and stone beads from Fire Mountain Gems, which is the best source I know of for jewelry-making supplies. They're affordable, fast, and you don't need a tax ID number to buy from them. You can have an easier ordering experience if you call 1-800-355-2137 and ask them to send you a catalog, as the online site is huge and hard to navigate.

That stone is called snake's eye, and is available in several colors (I used black). I used a 20 x 15 mm oval, but they come in all sizes and in rounds as well.

Hope this helps. :-)

I thought I'd peek into your LJ and saw these masks.

First thought: You... made these?
And then I recalled your username and laughed. Of course! ^_^

These are beautiful! I love the fox!

Hiya. :-) Yep, I make those. I've been doing masks for about 15 years now (my website is old and outdated, but it has some of my larger, cooler designs on it).

Cute icon! Yay Strongbow (he was my favorite next to Cutter).
