I'm back. I freaking LOVE Las Vegas. Going there was an excellent idea and I can't say enough nice thing about my brother, who proves once again that he looks better than, is thinner than, and is much more clever than me (though I do have a better vocabulary...choke on it John... ;-) ). Getting outside of my little box was ~exactly~ what I needed to do.

Vegas is NOT "Disneyland"...I've heard that comparison a thousand times and it's all wrong. You have to go inside the Bellagio, or the Wynn...and then you get it. If you just stick to the strip, driving up and down, well YEAH it's just sensory bombardment. When you go inside, though, you are immersed in the fantasy. The Bellagio is classic and art and beauty and opulence, The Venetian is Venice, The Luxor is all full of Egyptian motifs and HUGE (John tells me the Luxor is losing the Egyptian motif soon, which is a shame because I think it's so cool). Each casino/hotel/show is a new thematic experience. You can satisfy any urge you have, just by walking into the next place. It's better than traveling around the world, because you can see it all in one evening.

And yeah I won. ;-) It was just a little win, but I turned two bucks into seventy-nine and any day I do that is a good day. So yay me!

The desert and the mountains around Vegas are SO neat. To someone brought up on the East coast, desert + mountains = alien landscape of Mars. It's so pretty, though. "Tears running down your face" pretty, especially if your tour-guide brother who has a flair for drama puts a cd of Pavarotti singing "Ave Maria" in as you approach the Sierra Nevadas...THAT"S A DIRTY TRICK!!! Yeah, it's just lovely.

And the Hoover Dam...that's SO COOL. That's what great governments do for their people. It was moving to go there and read the dedications, written by an administration that obviously gave a fuck about America.

Just...wow.

AND my tan is awesome. :-) John has an adorable little in-ground rock-star pool and it's easy to see why he is so proud of his house in Henderson...it's a REALLY NICE HOUSE.

Of course I have pictures, which I will upload and share soon soon soon. For now I'm just a bit sad to be back home, but my world is a bit bigger today and that feels like a good thing. :-)

Yay Vegas! My mom and grandma used to go on bi-yearly trips but they stopped before I got old enough to go. *cries*

I'm glad you had so much fun! I sorta kinda missed the fact that you were going or I would have recommended this little restaurant on the outskirts that serves the best calamari in the world, according to everyone I know who's gone there. Wah. Too late.

Vegas is SOO neat. I'm seriously considering moving there (though I think I'd miss my "green"...I do love the forests here in NY state).

Didn't have calimari anywhere (Char would have loved that, she's into squid) but we did have "tappas" at a very neat and spiffy restaurant on the strip and it was divine.

Oh man, that sounds so cool! And from an East coast pov, too, that's mue important!

You just wait Vegas, as soon as I'm 21...I'M COMING FOR YA.

OMG you are going to LOVE it. That city is so alive all the time, and the desert is simply gorgeous. Also, the weather! Very pleasant. It's so dry that 99 degree heat feels like no big deal (not like here where the humidity makes it feel like you're breathing hot soup anytime it gets over 80).
