Oh man...I am a TOTAL WRECK waiting for the scans/translations of the most recent Inuyasha manga episode (chapter 465) to be posted. Really. I can't stand the tension.
*le sigh*
So much has happened in the last few weeks...but the idea of Kikyo actually dying (for good this time) has me really sad. I thought for sure she'd survive to see the end of the conflict with Naraku. She really deserved to, considering the whole mess started basically because of her in the first place. If Onigumo hadn't fallen in love with her, he'd never have called on the power of all the random demons in the area to consume his soul (and turn him into Naraku) so he'd have the ability to pursue her. She's the whole reason he exists. It seems wrong that she won't be there to see him get his ass handed to him.
Oh, she'll probably show up as a hazy image and a "voice over" a la Obi Wan Kenobi at the end of the Star Wars epic...maybe Kagura will make a celestial apperance too, for that matter. But it's not the same *whines* as her actually being there! Japanese fairy tales are all about unrequited love and revenge. Poor Kikyo got a lot of the first ingredient but nothing of the second.
I've seen a scan, though, of the single MOST satisfying (in my opinion) moment of the entire manga series so far. Won't say what it is (if you're a fangirl you probably already know anyway) but I gotta say it made my entire week. Maybe my entire month (it's been a slow month). I'm all *sparkle*hearts*flowers* over it. I freaking love Rumiko Takahashi tonight.

That's just the first draft, though. I think there's a few lines I want to clean up. But the jist is still there. :)
OH! OHOH! And I got your email! :D Been meaning to tell you! ;) I'll let you know when to expect something in the mail. Heehee. :D

Oh wow... That's just the most awesome chapter yet, of any manga, ever. In my totally biased opinion. I'm officially wrecked.
*tackles* You're the best!! Can you feel some really sappy emo fanart sneaking up on you like a deep-sea tsunami? 'Cause *I* sure as hell can!
...
Where the heck is my chocolate? This is a Godiva moment if ever there was one.

Spoilers in this comment for 465! (Deleted previous comment since I didn't put in a warning.)
You like Godiva chocolates? I'm curious. Have you had the key lime truffles? I saw some at the bookstore in Ottawa and considered getting them...until I saw that ONE piece of chocolate was 100 calories and 6.5 grams of fat. But I'm very curious about the taste of a key lime chocolate.
I've never read Inuyasha manga before...damn, it's at 465 chapters? Is it ever going to end? That chapter is very sad, though. I am neither a Kikyo lover nor a Kikyo hater, but I'm glad she got the first (deliberate) kiss. It's only fair.

I don't look at calories when I want a bit of fine chocolate, because it's not food...it's a treat. It's like worrying about the calories in the champagne toast at your wedding (well, not THAT bad but you get my point).
And yeah, I'm totally with you on the IY/Kikyo kiss. She deserves that, at the very least. She actually seemed surprised at how he was crying for her, it was like she didn't realize until that moment how much he loved her. I was saying (somewhere else..I've been "blah blah blah" about this chapter because I really LOVE Iy with Kikyo and I'm going to miss her) that the kiss may have been the thing that finally healed the anger and betrayal in Kikyo's soul (over the Naraku-thing from 50 yrs ago). It may be the reason she could go on and be reincarnated as the pure loving soul that is Kagome. Let's face it, Kagome might get angry and stomp around and pout sometimes (she IS just a kid after all) but at the heart of the matter she ~always~ trusts IY. Kikyo wanted to trust IY but with only a little effort Naraku was able to turn her against him...Kagome would have never fallen for that trick.

Funny you should say that...at my best friend's wedding, I paused before drinking the champagne to the toast. Yes, mainly because of calories. (Also because it's taboo in my family's religion to toast, as it is an old spiritually-related superstition.) When you've been living on either 1500 or 1200 calories for as long as I have (think in terms of years, not months) you don't really have a choice about whether you think of the calories or not. You just do. And since I have to keep an eye on my fat, fibre and protein intake as well, it's easy to be obsessive about numbers, since I have to pay constant attention to them.
Not paying attention is fine, of course, for people who actually eat them like you do...one or two as a rare treat, less than once a week, say. If you eat bad food that rarely, it truly doesn't matter HOW bad it is. But most people scarf down the whole tiny tray of six in one go so they last maybe five minutes...and then they do it again four days later, and complain about being fifty pounds overweight. (Grr. Can't help it, I know people who do exactly these things and drive me UP THE WALL by complaining that I'm lucky because I'm 'thin'...which I'm not, I'm just healthy. Lucky? I had to work my tiny ass off to get where I am. Grr, grr to those people.)
Um. End nutrition rant. I go on those really often irl. Too bad it's starting to leak onto the net. :)
I was just interested in knowing if a limey chocolate would even taste good. The combo was so intriguing that I almost bought it in spite of the calorie/fat horror.
My only major issue with Kikyo was her soul stealing. Other than that, with the relationship with IY, the only thing was that she was dead, which made it a bit squicky, to me. But for her personality and all that, she was fine. It was her tragic life from before that made me annoyed at all the narrow-minded people who can't stop screaming about what a witch she is. I do think that she and IY didn't have enough trust...but it doesn't seem to me that they had enough time. And Kikyo had a very hard life...she wasn't like Kagome.
So like I said...I am neither a Kikyo lover nor a hater, and I thought the kiss was nice, I'm glad he wasn't stupid about it at the end.

ANYWAY.... Yeah. Certainly a very satisifying and fitting end....course, it's got the fan art flowing too........
It still needs some serious work... but hell.... :D

Poor Kikyo! :-( She was happy and at peace, but still. I keep re-reading 465 and seeing new things to break my heart all over again. Did you notice she's all broken? You can see that her neck is cracked and fractured...poor thing! Like a piece of old pottery. *sniff*
The way Inuyasha cried, that breaks my heart too. With all the terrible things that have happened, to see him finally lose it like that was touching and almost alarming. Seriously, it upsets me more than "the kiss".

Yeah, I noticed the cracks. I'm going to go back and add those in (I started this Monday night) I think I'm also going to make her smile a little more...
It IS heartbreaking to see Inuyasha cry. He's tried so hard for so long to protect and save Kikyou and, though she's all right with it, he's failed again. You can't help but feel for the poor guy.... He's had it rough too.

Couldn't you practically hear the words in your head, though? I know I couldn't stop myself from hearing Kappei saying those words.
"Kikyou, omae wa... ore ga umarete hajime suki ni natta taisetsu na onna da... [sore na noni... nani mo shite yarenakatta!]"
Got a LOT of drawing to try to do now. ^___^
