Okay, I should REALLY be sleeping.

I'm doing a little Rennaissance festival today.  It's a fund-raiser for Hawk Creek , (click the link and melt your heart.)    :-)  It's a lovely little place dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating wild birds of prey.  They've been having this little Renn Faire for a few years now.  I was personally invited (so I'm donating a really cool Great Horned Owl mask to the art auction...it's going to be a big hit).

And I'm SO tired.  And I CAN'T sleep.  I have to get up in six hours and do this thing, and I'm not doing a good job of resting up.  *sigh*

We set up my tent tonight.  I'm glad that's done at least.  They call 'em E-Z Up display tents...but they sort of aren't.  At least, mine can be a bit of a struggle.  Technically it's like opening an umbrella...but imagine a hundred pound umbrella that has to be staked down.  We staked it down good, two on each corner...there are high winds and thunderstorms forecast for tonight, tomorrow,  Sunday...basically until October.

Tomorow the weather's supposed to get really dicey in the afternoon...I really hope the worst of it waits until after 4 pm.  :-(    This summer has been just brutal.  Such extreme weather!

I finished my fish masks, I finished some more little dragons (the ones that sit on your arm...everyone likes those), and I finished some big dramatic masks so tomorrow will be a good day to do inventory.  I'm gearing up for my HUGE event in PA next month and I have NO idea how I'm doing, as far as stock goes.

And today is my husband Greg's birthday!  Yay!!  :-D  I made his cake tonight...golden French vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.   Of course he already had a piece (me too!).  It's kind of a lonely birthday.  Char had to go to her Dad's house this weekend (and she was SO blue about it), so it's just me and Greg.  And NOW he has to come with me to do a show, poor thing.  I gave him the option to stay home but he said he wants to help (he's my personal Sherpa when it comes to shows...how's a girl supposed to haul all that crap alone?  ;-)  ).  I made up for it by buying him a REALLY GOOD PRESENT.  It's a CD stereo, a really good one.  His little boombox that he keeps by the bed is a broken piece of crap, so I got this awesome little panasonic setup with a set of really good headphones.  The kind of headphones that block noise both ways (his idea of relaxing is listening to Tool, turned all the way up).  Anyway, for all you Spinal Tap fans, this stereo goes to eleven!

Going to TRY to get some sleep.   Dealing with the general public is exhausting.

EDIT:  Haha!  Almost forgot this.  When I got to the site I wasn't sure where to set up, so I went into the bird sanctuary area, looking for someone with a clue.  I walked in and said "...Hello?", 'cause I didn't see any people (just big bird cages).  Someone answered "Hello!" right in front of me but I still didn't see anyone.  It took three more exchanges of "Hellos" before I realized I was talking to a BIRD.  Big, friendly cockatoo.  I felt like a total ass.

It sounds like fun...I've never been to a Ren, though I've always been curious about them. But I'd have to drive about five hours to attend the nearest ones...there are none held any closer to where I live.

Buttercream icing sounds so good. I always hear about it in connection to wedding cakes, but I don't know if I've ever had it. I'm sure your husband doesn't mind helping out, but...still, it's nice to show your appreciation. :) But I hope he knows about the dangers of losing his hearing and never being able to listen to music again. Most stereos on high are WELL over the safety-level for your hearing (85 decibels...truck traffic generates about 90 decibels and normal human conversation is at about 60), and even if not much happens now, the damage is kind of cumulative.

I listen to my music a little too loud sometimes too, but not very often. It makes my ears ring afterwards...which is actually a good sign. If you don't hear ringing anymore that means you've already got damage.

Oopsy, lecture. I just think noise-related deafness is really sad, so I always worry when I hear about people listening to music full tilt. :)

Don't worry 'bout the hearing loss lecture; I give it to him all the time. I was hoping that the low noise headphones might help him to tune it down somewhat, as they block external sounds too and I suspect he's trying to drown out all the background noise...with his OWN noise. :-)

The buttercream icing was OH so good. I outdid myself. Sometimes nothing beats a plain vanilla cake.

Happy birthday to your husband and a big laugh about the cockatoo.

:-) I'll pass on the birthday wishes.

Hee! That freaking bird cracked me up. When I finally realized what I was doing I said "Oh I'm talking to a BIRD," and the bird made a funny clucking noise, like he was laughing at me!

Yeah...the general public is QUITE exhausting.... I've got Otakon next weekend, so I totally feel your pain. (Course, I have an extra special pain kicking me in the ass right now....*sigh* At least I'm capable of some form of printing at the moment...)

LOL...I can see your hubby's side of the music...I'll listen to Gackt really loud to relax sometimes. XD There's just something about losing yourself in loud, rocking music that just forces you to forget the other shit going on.

Oh. Those people wore me out today. :-/ I guess it's just another symptom of my anti-social nature,(though, really, I'm more like, "a"social. Asocial...it should be a word) but a number of them really bugged me. :-( I guess I'm sick of explaining myself. I've gotten to the point that I'll answer certain questions by just pointing to the article about me that was in the newspaper last summer (I have a copy on my table...who's afraid of a little self promotion? Not me!). It was a pretty comprehensive interview. It answers a lot of questions. If they really want to know they can read it.

S'funny though, sometimes I'm ~certain~ that the superior snarky attitude (which isn't nice I KNOW...but I just get so tired) actually gets me more sales. Plus, no one bitches about prices. *shrug*

Plus, no one bitches about prices.

Ha! Wish I could say that.... *sigh* People have issues with $8 for a print...we won't even go into what some people have said about my commission prices. XD

I totally understand about having to explain yourself over and over and over again. XD I just *love* < / snark > getting the comments like - "Wow...so....you don't draw anime? You make them look like real people?" (Eh...uh....DUH), or the always popular, "Oh...they shouldn't look like that/They look freaky like that/etc" I actually had a guy go through my entire book last year very slowly, then he looked up at me with a quizical look on his face, then said, "Sooo....you don't draw anime?"

Yes....they can be incredibly exhausting.

I hope things at least went well for you yesterday!
