Thank you EVERYONE for the input on my Spriggan mask...it helps immensely to get objective crit from people who are free to just react to a design (something I have a hard time doing, 'cause I'm just too personally invested in my work). I think I'm going with mask #1, which was my initial choice anyway, but now I have many good reasons to make that choice (rather than just a gut reaction to it).
I'm busy making more of those little dragon half masks for I-Con, as I sold out of them last weekend. More of the same and nothing new there; I can do these little guys in my sleep practically. The cool thing is, while I was working on them, I got a nifty idea for a really NEAT, HUGE new mask.
In the meantime I'm playing FAR too many games, including Okami (again!!!) and a stupid STUPID fish game where I'm raising fish and selling them in a store. "Fish Tycoon" it's called, and it's making me wonder if I'm borderline Asperger's or somethin'. I'm just so compelled to keep raising my fishies decorating my tanks and breeding wierd hybrids...it's like The Sims meets The Amazing Mr Limpet.
I'm such a freak.

I do dragon masks, lots of 'em. They look like this one, with horns and scales and a stone inlaid in the head and stuff like that. BUT, I also do dragon sculptures. These are much more fun and dynamic, and more like what I think a dragon should look like. See, dragon faces in my opinion should be a little reptilian but also just a bit like a horse...the eyes should be somewhat on the side of the head. Unfortunately, with masks, you have to put the eyes in the front of the face because that's where humans have their eyes...it's a conundrum. To be wearable, the dragon masks are just a bit "not right" to me.
But with the sculptures I do the heads like this, and this, which I love the look of, and my thought was; maybe I can do a mask that's more like these heads by doing the snouts in that fashion? That's really the cool part, and I can add those wild flangy floopy bits to the face and eyes and snout and do a REALLY NEAT Asian dragon mask. Doing all those twigs for the Spriggan made me think that doing an Asian dragon with flying mane would be no more difficult, and just think how visually amazing all those flying swirling bits would look surrounding a dragon face.
So yeah. No drawing yet, just an idea. I want to do an Asian dragon in gold and red, and a Frost dragon in blues and silver. The Asian dragon would have those long floopy bits (feathers, I'm told), and the Frost dragon would have a furry flying mane. Lots of furry and/or feathery additions to eyes and muzzle. The Asian dragon has stag horns while the Frost dragon has spiral horns. East and West...how much fun would that be??

I hear you on the compulsion towards the fish game -- Insaniquariumm on my faithful old Visor Prism grabbed me that way. If you get OCDish over that sort of thing easily, BEWARE HARVEST MOON. It wasn't an amazing immersive otherworld like Okami for me, but there's something addictive about the cutesy farming-sim nonetheless.
(Ah, obsessions. I should be doing a million other things, including sleeping. But since my sleep schedule's messed up from a bad cold earlier this week, and I have cramps so bad right now that I'm almost nauseous, I am instead puttering around Gaia and making eleventy squillion "School Time Shipping" icons. OCD, what, me?)

OMG I know ALL ABOUT HARVEST MOON. Don't get me started. Also, in the same vein, Animal Crossing. Freaking Animal Crossing ate my life for about half a year. Something about those "build-a-cute-domestic-empire" games just sucks me in. That's why Okami is my absolute fave. It's the perfect storm of pretty + adventure platform + you collect praise ARE YOU KIDDING ME??. I just LOVE that aspect of the game. Something about bettering your character by working hard & doing good deeds...it's just so infectious to me!

I need a virtual tiolet so I can flush my virtual fishies away and be done with it all. Funniest thing? I have REAL fishies that are sorely in need of a water change & a gravel vacuuming & a good tank scrubbing. Am I doing it though? Noooo. I'm too busy with the fake fishies. *le sigh*

Okami, though, that grabs me even harder than the pure-cute-OCDness of stuff like HM and AC and the fishy games -- it's just so BEAUTIFUL, so satisfying to make the wasted lands bloom into life again -- and it pushes my myth-folklore-and-art geeky buttons like nothing I have ever seen before.
(BTW, I am ENDLESSLY amused that we both had the same Sess-as-Black-Knight take on the latest thread in Res's journal...too much funny!)

It's an INCREDIBLY GOOD IY doujin, though. Absolutely the best I've ever seen. She's an amazing artist & if she's not making 300 dollars an hour doing storyboards then she really ought to be.
Here's a link to the first one. OMG go read it...you'll be hooked on all the pretty, & it just keeps getting better.

Make sure you check at the bottom of each installment...there will be a link for "next" there. There are 3 installments so far & each one is more fun than the last.

OMG, heckyeah, I will paint you anything you want anytime, woman, in exchange for one of your lovelies. !!!0.0!!!
I'll even do it all-natural and watercolored and stuff.
(I do have this one I did in '05, http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23659464/
which gives you an idea of what I've done with watercolored Sesshy.) ^_^
Yeah, let me know what sort of pic you want! XDDD

See? He just deserves the time & effort of watercolors, I think. :-) My friend Rumdiculous added text to that so I could use it as an icon.
I tell you, it was your "Dogwood" pics from chapter 2 that REALLY did it for me. That 4th panel, you know the one (where Sess is in profile, lifting his head)...when I saw that (& I know this is just the line art but STILL) I almost cried. I was like "OMG!!! There he is, that's HIM."
If you could do a finish of that piece, maybe a bit larger & in a frame-friendly size (and I love it just the way it is, offset like that), I will make you pretty much ANYTHING you want. You want a Sesshoumaru in dog-form mask? You got it. A dragon? That too. Traditional kitsune? I've done those & you could have one of those. I've done the "Okami" Amaterasu as well, which is a very very pretty & Japanese-looking mask. Or I could even make you something that's totally new & unique...I'm open to it.
I just REALLY want to look at that particular piece of Sess art on my wall, because I'm pretty sure it'll be the perfect way to start my day. ;-)
E-mail me at MERIMASK at aol dot com & we'll talk.

My brother took the PS2 so I can't play FFXII! Ugh.
Ooh I like where you're going with these dragon masks...

Waah...how dare he take away your video crack?? You're a student now & you need your diversions!
The dragons are going to be SO cool. I'm working on sketches & patterns tonight. Maybe I'll have prototype drawings up on my LJ tomorrow (does anyone care 'bout those? I just like showing how I go from sketch to finished piece 'cause I think someone out there might find it interesting).
