Busy! But, still I have to share all the pet-related goofiness that's going on in my life.
First of all, my cat Dinah. Technically she's Charlotte's cat. I got her for Char when she entered second grade...so "little" Dinah is seven years old! She's a big furry ottoman of a cat.

She's cute but not an especially friendly cat...not like my beloved Claudia was. You can't pick her up and she hardly ever purrs. She's just not a "people" cat (but we love her anyway). I have spend a fortune on her because she's allergic to most commercial pet foods. I've been wanting a second cat since shortly after Claud died, because I miss my cuddle-cat. I even have a pre-approved adoption card for our local SPCA...but none of the cats there have been quite right. More on that later! ;-)
So, I'm deciding on a name and preparing for a new family member this weekend. I may enlist the help of my f-list...so many names but only one little cat!

This is the face Kiba makes when I ask him if he wants to go for a car ride.

That's "dog" for "You bet!!"
Today I had to go downtown to buy some leather supplies. My friend Linda owns a 120 year old leather goods business in the heart of downtown Buffalo. A huge old store and she works alone, so she's always had a dog buddy to help her & keep her safe. Unfortunately, her old sidekick Duke (a massive lab/shepherd mix) passed away over the winter of old age. So Linda has been looking for a new pal.
A friend of hers lost her apartment and suddenly found herself unable to care for her dog...so it seems Linda has her new pal...a ten month old Jack Russel terrier. Now, I just got finished telling
rumdiculoushow I've never really liked these dogs (hyper & dog-aggressive), but little Milo made me a liar. He's cute and full of attitude but not belligerent, and he was tough enough to hold his own with Kiba (who can overwhelm BIG dogs if given half a chance). I got some pictures but MOST of them were just blurs of fur and feet. Once they slowed down a little I was able to take a few that look like something.

A new sport...Jack Russell rolling.

Which goes along with Kiba's other favorite sport; Jack Russell trampling.

Poor Milo prays that the big crazy bastard is through with him.

Here's a rare picture: an utterly played-out Jack Russell terrier.
Kiba LOVES the little guy and I have to say, Milo was a good sport about the swatting and trampling that Kiba doled out. I think they're going to be great friends.

Then it was off to Golden Tails, the outlet that sells organic pet food. What have I found there? A new kitty!

I met him there yesterday, actually. I walked in and he was sitting and STARING at me as I came through the door...exactly like Claudia did twenty years ago when I found her at the shelter. He's a lovely little guy who is very sweet and calm and purrs a lot and kneads with all four feet when he gets head scratches. He talked to me, too. I walked up to him and because he reminded me SO much of Claudia I said "Prrru?" (like I always did to her) and he said "Brrrt?" (just like she used to)...and it was love at first sight.
Today I went back with Kiba and the camera and my checkbook. Little No-Name is coming home with us on Saturday.
Here he is checking Kiba out. He "Mrowww"ed a little and glared, but he didn't freak or puff up so I'm pretty sure everyone will reach some kind of equilibrium in time.

Once Kiba moved away (Kiba could care less about the kitty...he ambled over, wagged his tail & sniffed, decided "not dog", and walked away), kitty began mooching for head scratches just like yesterday. He has lovely green eyes and he's a smoky gray short hair tabby...he looks like a cloudy day.

"Pet MEEEEE!" I love his delicate pink nose.

Are you gonna post a poll so we can vote on name choices? I'd offer some but I'm sure our tastes aren't the same...I have had three pets as an adult...a cat named Aura, and two budgies, named Alayne and Gwin. Kinda odd. (As a kid they were more normal...Squash and Tinkerbell were the names of my cats as a kid. Oddly, we also had a kitten named Goldie.)

If I can figure out how to do a poll, I certainly will run one (perhaps tonight). I have a list of names.
All my cats have had silly mundane names (I do that on purpose because I decided that they look exotic enough & need basic call names like Claudia, Oscar, Dinah...etc...). But I have a few fannish names picked out for the little guy.

Hm, I'll grudgingly say that Milo looks cute and prolly isn't an ass. XD Go Kiba for rolling him across the floor.

lol...a little guy like Milo would only make six-piece sushi.
Now a wheaten-coated terrier would probably be good for eight. ;-)

That means Princess, and is a better indicator of wealth, if that's how your name is spelt! XDDDDD

Milo has made me eat my words about JR terriers. He's friendly and funny and NOT yappy and actually a very sweet little fellow. The poor guy isn't much more than a year old & he's been bounced from place to place (he's been abandoned three times & had 5 owners already)...but he's still loving and happy. You have to admire his spirit.

Maybe all JR terriers need to go through the process of being in a shelter to build character and drive out that yappy, annoying, nervous tendancies...

Hee. Kiba and Milo are adorable together. :D

Kiba & Milo are HILARIOUS together...Kiba was leaping over Milo & then Milo started leaping over Kiba! He'd pop right up in the air & over him like he was on springs.

Aw, whenever I see your pet pics, I totally miss having big rompy animals around the house. The piggeh is great but there's only so much "playtime" she can take. *LOL*
I would so totally name him "Cloud" just from that description. And that's not my Final Fantasy inner fangirl speaking there. Or "Squall." XD But then everyone would know "huh-huh... Final Fantasy."
Then again, I'm a geek like that.
...and I named my guinea pig "hairball" in Japanese. Which cracks everyone who speaks Japanese up.
So yeah, don't take my advice when I'm naming things. *LOL*
(Then again, it was Roy who suggested the name. ^^ ........I just ended up going along with it. Yeah.)
*licks* I luffs joo?
Please forgive, I just woke up. XD

Look who you're talking to, btw, when it comes to fannish names! I named my dog after a character in "Wolf's Rain", fer cryin' out loud.
Hmm...maybe Kumori (cloudy day)? It almost sounds like Khimari (from FFx...NOW who's being a nerd?)
Anyway I'll post a naming poll in here I think. I needs help!
*smooch* I luffs joo too! Good morning! ^___^

Oooh, "Spirit??"
I named our old ferret Thunder Lily, though it ended up getting shortened to Lily. It's always interesting picking out names, I'm pretty picky about it XDDDD

Delurking!
I like Arlo. Don't know why. Of course, my cats are named Lisa and Bagheera, and my dogs are Thistle and Beckett, so there is clearly very little rhyme or reason to any names I choose... though to be fair, my mom named the dogs. And I had three Barbies as a little girl that I dragged about by their hair named Aligoola, Jaboa, and Cheapo Barbie (whose head I popped off and on regularly.) Even at three, I obviously took names very seriously.
But Arlo rings nicely. It's cute, but not cutesy, and has the whole hippie-pacifist-good-feelings-Guthrie juju going along with it. (Although only a man named Woody would name his son Arlo. It's a little weird for a person. No offense to any Arlos reading this.)

Ain't he a cutie? I really hope our family doesn't freak him out.
I have to figure out how to do a poll post. *clueless*

"Their heads are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of springs." Or maybe it's the other way around - I'm not up on my Pooh.
"Kittens are made out of velcro."
"What have I done?"
That said, yea for the kitten! Nishka is still giving the look when I get home from work of "See? You see what I have to put up with ALL DAY?" But then when she thinks we're not looking she washes his ears. Once we got past the first few weeks of growling and hissing, it was okay. He's a fairly cuddly boy. The only problem is that the kitten (now young cat) energy doesn't let him hold still long enough for a truly satisfying cuddle. That will come with time. I still desperately miss my Tashi. He was truly the cat the universe meant for me, and we didn't have enough time.
I like "Cloud," and I like "Kumo." Tashi came from a story, and I was later told that it is Tibetan for "good fortune." Don't know if that's true. Nishka was an assortment of made-up sounds that we liked. Becket came from a breeder in Canterbury, CT, so I decided to name him for Canterbury, England's biggest troublemaker. That may have been an error in judgement...
Now I want a kitten. I've promised Bob that the next cat can be a big, meaty, Maine Coone type because he's indulged me for this long (Siamese are like potato chips - you can't have just one!)
He is adorable! And it looks like he'll be a lovely cat.

He seems quite calm and mellow...once again reminding me SO much of Claudia. She was born an old soul. The woman in charge of the adoption is fostering him and says he's very quiet but not shy; apparently he just likes to be where the people are.
I've filled my computer room (which is also the cat room) with all the toys I've always wanted to buy but which Dinah would never ever use. I have kitty furniture with peep holes and hidey-spaces, and mousies that run on tracks, and crinkle-caves...it's all tricked out & just waiting for the little guy with (hopefully) all the energy to play.
