Still making things.  I was waiting for more leather to get here (I'm all out of cow) so while I was waiting I made a bunch of little things, including this koi pin.

I thought I'd try something different & made it in sepia tones; red ochre and black on a neutral leather fish.   Up in Etsy of course.

I also got a wonderful gift in the mail from my friend Elsie.  It's a vintage-looking butterfly cameo necklace and I love it!

It even goes with the silly frumpy sweatshirt I'm wearing today...thank you Elsie!  *hug*

I was in a great mood but then, Charlotte came home from school.   She's taking an advanced photography class & today, someone stole her camera right out of her locked locker.  It wasn't actually her camera; it belonged to my father.  An extremely valuable Nikon with all the bells & whistles...worth over $1000.  I am livid & heartbroken.

Seriously...no words.

Hey, I was just checking out your site, and I noticed the wall-sculpture was gone! Did you sell it?

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

No, it timed out & I decided, having not sold it for almost a year, that it didn't belong on Etsy anyway.

I know. I'm physically ill with anger & heartache. My Dad loved that camera...it was his pride & joy.

AUGH. How on earth did they get it in a locked locker? Was the lock still locked when she went to get it, or was it open or cut off? If it's still there, there'd probably be fingerprints on it, but I really have no idea how likely it is that something like that could be found again.

So expensive, and even if you could toss out a thou to replace it, it was your dad's.

The cameo looks like it was made by JewelsbyNature, with that large central ring. Can't remember if she does cameos or not, though. I like her stuff, though, that's where I got the necklace for my best almost a year ago, now. (I still want one myself, and will probably get one...eventually. Larger necklaces usually suit me pretty well, though small are okay, too. Solidly prominent collar bones seem to go with everything.)

The lockers can be pried open. Frankly I think we have a case for litigation here 'cause they are old lockers...the kind with combination locks built into them. The combinations apparently do get changed from year to year but the locks themselves are old & rickety.

I'm just SICK about it...been crying all night. My Mom was so happy to let Char borrow that VERY valuable old camera. It's not replaceable 'cause they don't even make them anymore. When my Mom finds out it's going to kill her. :-(

Yay! and OMG!

Yep it was from Jewels by Nature :) Blame the post that had the Steampunk heart necklace.. I kinda went nuts and bought everyone something and this just screamed Meri :D So glad you liked it! I'm always nervous thinking outside the box and getting someone jewelry.. there's always a fear that someone won't like it.. so happy you do :) I figured this can go with all sorts of outfits and it's pink!

I'm so devastated for you with the camera! I mean it's material.. but omg that's so frustrating! Friend of mine a month ago was broken into by a burgler at home (some guy faking cleaning supplies but she wasn't home so he busted his way in) and stole all her jewelry.. her mom's rings and jewelry.. granmother's jewelry.. all gone.. It's such a violation for any material thing to be taken.. worse when it has massive sentimental value on top of it. Oh I so hate injustice. My massive sympathies. :(

Re: Yay! and OMG!

LOVE the necklace, hon. It was a bright spot. :-) Thank you very much!

I'm so angry & upset about the camera I'm unable to think straight right now. If I could curse the brat that took it I'd give the little monster herpes or something awful & disfiguring.

Elsie done good...no surprise there...she usually finds the good stuff.

That is terrible about the camera. Not just for the camera but also because it belonged to your Dad. Where is the respect. So sad.

Elsie has great taste. :-)

I'm too upset about the camera to even think about it right now. I'm physically ill at the thought of it being gone.

About the camera -- oh, how sickening.

The other stuff is nice.

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

Sickening is the right word. Losing something like that reminds me that Dad is gone too...it's all tied up together. I'm so furious I'm nauseated.

Does the school have video in the halls etc? That would be great but in any case, file a police report. More than likely, it will be pawned. If you have a picture of the camera, that would be great too. You could pass it around the pawn shops.

It always makes me mad that people think nothing of taking property that isn't theirs. Either you work hard for things or they were given to you and have special meaning. It's a very violated feeling you get when things are taken from you. I do hope you are able to get the camera back.

Oh man...I WISH they had video cameras. Stuff gets stolen all the time. It's a huge school and except for the honors kids the majority of brats in there are mouth breathers. They even have an officer there full time. There was a report made, figerprints lifted but my guess is nothing can be done.

I'd guess pawn shops are obsolete in a time when stuff can be sold on E-bay or Craig's List. It's really very gone. :-(

Our only recourse is a law suit, I think.

I love the sepia koi!

That is awful about the camera. When things like that happen it just makes me sick to my stomach :( I hate losing things, but something so valuable and sentimental is just horrible *hugs*

From: [identity profile] merimask.livejournal.com

The sepia koi already sold. I need to make more I guess...

I'm so upset about the camera. I can't even let myself think about it because once I get rolling I can't stop crying. It is not an exaggeration to say that this holiday is an utter wash for me.
